Job Description

Position: Community Outreach Coordinator

Location: Indianapolis IN 46204 (Hybrid)

Job Description

Purpose of position:

  • Responsible for overseeing the planning and implementation of outreach activities in assigned counties in Indiana that falls within the Overdose Data to Action grant guidelines. Primary responsibility includes collaborating connecting and consulting with community stakeholders on topics or concerns of Drug Overdose Prevention (DOP) and integrated community responses. Focus will be on facilitating regional and Client wide community planning groups. Providing technical assistance to both internal and external partners on DOP activities. Incumbent represents the IDOH and works closely with the other DOP Outreach Coordinator(s) to ensure communications are cohesive and timely.

Essential duties:

  • Coordinates the IDOH planning and outreach activities to support the requirements of the Overdose Data to Action federal grant.
  • Coordinates a calendar of outreach activities including community events workshops appearances and other communication opportunities.
  • Schedules outreach presentations and exhibitions in the community and communicates with DOP team regarding coverage and responsibilities.
  • Provides leadership and direction to external subgrantees receiving funds under the INCAREs ECHO and other projects as assigned.
  • Oversees external subgrantees and approves and verifies all project deliverables project phases and milestones.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for external grantees and any issues that arise during project planning and implementation.
  • Nurtures new and old relationships with collaborative partners. Captures data on relationships that can be used by division and IDOH for public health efforts.
  • Collaborate and consult with community stakeholders (e.g. local health departments treatment providers law enforcement other emergency and public service agencies business partners hospitals clinics and other healthcare organizations) on the issues of drug overdose prevention and overdose response activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to internal and external partners including Client agencies county coalitions and advisory groups.
  • Actively participates in intra and interagency collaborations and initiatives related to substance use disorder and fatal/nonfatal overdoses. Represent the Trauma and Injury Prevention Division on task forces and committees related to drug overdose prevention.
  • Corresponds via email and phone calls.
  • Assists with grant research writing and reviewing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor or Masters of Public Health degree with specialization in community health social and behavioral health or community organization. (Preferred)
  • Experience in drug overdose prevention treatment activities or community organization. (Preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of public health principles and practices.
  • Friendly enthusiastic and positive attitude with confidence to interact facetoface with partners.
  • Detailoriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
  • Considerable knowledge of computers and competent in using software applications including: Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel.
  • Extensive ability to communicate with health care and public health professionals policy makers agency staff and the general public both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced ability to work cooperatively with staff and representatives of Client Local Federal and private partner agencies and to coordinate efforts of administrative and professional personnel.
  • Ability to prepare research documents and reports.
  • Advanced ability to interpret and communicate information relative to epidemiologic and assessment studies. (Preferred)
  • Advanced experience in the writing of formal reports and articles and oral presentations.
  • Working knowledge of organizational structure administrative process and quality improvement.
  • Considerable skill in coordinating complex work tasks.
  • Have a valid Indiana drivers license and willing to travel.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills to effectively work with both internal and external public health partners.

Skills

  • Experience in drug overdose prevention treatment activities or community organization. Required
  • Prior experience in leadership or management role. Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge in overdose prevention substance use disorders substance use disorder treatment harm reduction recovery and/or drug policy. Required
  • Experience in the writing of formal reports and articles and oral presentations. Required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel Word Powerpoint Teams and Zoom. Required
  • Prior experience with project management. Highly desired
  • Bachelors degree in public health related field preferred. Highly desired
