Job Description

The ACU RN is responsible for day of surgery preop and Phase II care of the surgical and endoscopy patient.

Shift start time may vary slightly depending on unit census need.

Education & Certifications Required:

Required Certifications (will this be consistent for all similar skillset on unit or specific to this Position Request):

RN licensure state of Maine. BLS ACLS. PALS preferred.


Education Modules (will this be consistent for all similar skillset on unit or specific to this Position Request):

Hospital mandatory education modules.

Unit Information:

Number of Beds: 42 (covering 3 units: the main ACU a separate smaller Surgical Suite unit and an outpatient Digestive Health Center)


Patient Ratios: Variable depending on patient s phase of care in accordance with ASPAN standards.

Hiring Profile:

Must Have Skills/Experience: The primary area of responsibility is the management of patient care. This includes clinical nursing practice/caring leadership management professionalism and growth and development. The Clinical Nurse II is responsible for the independent assessment planning implementation and evaluation of patient care. He/She demonstrates positive guest relations through effective communication skills patient advocacy and maintaining collaborative relationships. The RN at this level is expected to contribute to improvements in standards of care support departmental policies and assume responsibilities for meeting professional education goals. This level is accepted as the standard of practice at Mid Coast Hospital.


Preferred Skillset/Experience:
Experience in preop/phase II nursing care.


Type of Patients on Unit:
Ambulatory adult and pediatric surgical patients. Specialties include: general surgery ENT GYN orthopedics endoscopy noninterventional cardiology urology ophthalmology ECTs among others.

Flexible teamoriented.

Any unacceptable attire:
All articles of clothing including pants skirts overalls or tops made of denim material of any color (including camouflage). Ripped torn wrinkled or faded clothing. Tshirts with inappropriate slogans or casual Tshirts. Exceptions: MaineHealth Approved Logo or Unit logo Pants: Gym yoga flannel or pajama style wind pants sweatpants or bib overalls Top or Shirts: Gym or yoga tops sweatshirts and hoodies. Athletic type clothing such as spandex tank tops and halters cutoffs jogging suits or shorts miniskirts skorts. Revealing outfits; e.g. Tight clingy or excessively baggy fitting. Lowriding pants any backless strapless or revealing tops. Any extreme style or fashion in dress footwear accessories or hair. Employees working in or entering direct patient care or clinical areas must wear closed toe/closedside shoes and shoes without holes (i.e. Crocs). Staff that enter patient rooms or work in areas where they may be in contact with blood and/or body fluids must wear shoes that have solid uppers to be resistive to exposure from blood and/or body fluids. No flip flops of any kind including thong style flip flops yoga flip flops are to be worn by any employee.

Misc./Other Information:

Time of arrival for shifts varies depending on anticipated unit census for the next day. Start times can vary between. Travel staff may make requests for shift scheduling upon hire. Shifts are 8 hours in length MondayFriday. The unit is closed on weekends and major holidays.
