Overview
The Department of Education (DOE) serves 1.2 million students annually harnessing the power of information
technology computer hardware software and telecommunications. At the core of this technological backbone is
the Division of Instructional & Information Technology (DIIT) a key player in advancing the DOEs mission through
the provision of seamless and innovative technology solutions.
DIIT plays a pivotal role in ensuring that technology becomes an enabler of collaboration and a catalyst for
educational excellence. Our mission is to empower both staff and students with the essential technological tools
knowledge and resources needed for a superior education fostering collaboration to shape the future generation.
This specialized role places a strong emphasis on expertise in advanced load balancers such as F5 and NSX ALB
along with a deep understanding of VPN and NGFW firewalls particularly Firepower. Additionally this role requires
proficiency in Cisco Nexus/ASR/ACI platforms.
DIIT requires IT professional services to support daytoday operational needs for critical business functions and
objectives related to:
1. Data Center Resiliency: This project is a comprehensive initiative designed to fortify the availability and
continuity of critical applications and essential business functions. The primary objective is to establish a
robust and failsafe infrastructure that minimizes downtime and ensures seamless operation even in the
face of unforeseen disruptions or challenges.
2. Application Migration: Migrate critical applications from legacy loadbalancing infrastructure to NSX ALB.
The objective of this project is to leverage the enhanced capabilities of NSX ALB to elevate application
delivery improve scalability and streamline the overall load balancing process.
3. Central Security Log Repository: NYCPS is interested in creating a central repository for security logs from
across their multicloud hybrid estate. The solution should be capable of ingesting security logs from NYCPS
data centers. NYCPS requires the capability to analyze security data to uncover insights into potential
security issues.
JOB DETAILS
OUTLINE OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Load Balancer Engineer (F5/NSX ALB): Implement and manage advanced load balancing
solutions specifically F5 and NSX ALB to ensure optimal performance and reliability in data
transfer.
Load Balancer Engineer (F5/NSX ALB): Provide architecture and engineering expertise for new
implementations integrations and project designs.
Cisco Nexus/ASR/ACI Platforms: Leverage advanced knowledge to optimize and maintain Cisco
Nexus ASR and ACI platforms for seamless data center operations.
VPN and NGFW Firewalls (Firepower): Design and implement enterprise solutions involving Next1Generation Firewall (NGFW) technologies.
Operational Support: Ability to provide advanced operational support and knowledge transfer to
network support engineers.
MANDATORY MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate must have minimally achieved the following level of experience:
8 years of experience in planning designing configuring and implementing enterprise
networks (Cisco ASR Cisco Nexus 9k/7k/5k Cisco ACI and VMware NSX).
8 years of experience with advanced load balancing technologies. (F5/NSX ALB).
8 years of experience in planning designing configuring and implementing NextGeneration
firewalls (Firepower) and VPN solutions.
8 years of experience collaborating with network architects and engineers addressing issues
such as routing protocols data center performance high availability and scalability.
8 years of experience working with IP networking protocols (IPv4 IPv6 TCP/IP BGP OSPF
EGRP).
Bachelors degree in computer science or relevant industry/project experience.
Cisco CCIE CCNP or other related industry security certifications.
Experience in VMware NSX and Advanced Load Balancer.
Experience with Azure/AWS cloud infrastructure and Express Route.
Implementation knowledge of network security best practices
Prior education industry/project experience
Must be a selfstarter and be able to work well independently and in a team setting
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in a credible and
confident manner at all levels in the organization especially on technical issues to a non1technical audience
