In this role you report to Head of Global Customs & CFO North America located in our Mahwah New Jersey office.


Let us describe the challenge we offer

The business is growing rapidly and we are looking for a customs operations expert to add value and oversee our customs and export control operations. You will work closely with the business and our customs brokers to ensure compliance with customs and export control legislations. You will serve as the main contact for our customs broker customs consultants and U.S. CBP. As our Customs Operations Manager you will work in close collaboration with both local and global stakeholders and challenge our current ways of working to identify and implement process improvements.


What youll do

  • Oversee all customs activities for the North American market including managing import and export of automobiles and parts between global entities.
  • Ensure compliance with all customs regulations and laws staying up to date with customs legislation changes including tariff structures duties and taxes in both regions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customs officials and external consultants representing the company during customs audits and inquiries.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of necessary documentation for customs clearance including bills of lading invoices reconciliation filings and export declarations.
  • Implement efficient customs processes to streamline operations and handling the transmission of information and supporting documents to multiple stakeholders.
  • Develop and establish processes needed for existing and new customs related flow of goods.
  • Prepare regular reports on customs activities and costs analyzing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Identify and assess potential risks related to customs and trade activities and seek to implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Followup on duties and other customs related costs.
  • Collaborate with logistics procurement and sales teams to ensure smooth and compliant movement of goods. Address any supply chain disruptions promptly and support the business when customs related solutions are requested.
  • Monitor and manage duty drawback filings. Develop strategies to minimize customs duties taxes and other charges. Explore duty relief and drawback programs.
  • Ensure compliance with export control legislations.
  • Monitor and ensure duly payment of customs duties and other customs related fees applicable.
  • Support our Canadian business where applicable including working with our dedicated customs broker in Canada.


Who you are

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs management preferably in the automotive industry or a relevant position.
  • Bachelors/Masters degree in Supply Chain Management International Business or related field.
  • You thrive by working in a fastpaced environment.
  • You are motivated to search find and always open to learn more about customs regimes and export control measures.
  • Indepth knowledge of U.S. and European customs regulations and procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in customs management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Have a strong interest in the commercial and financial aspects of the business
  • Youre collaborative flexible have an open working style and an ability to establish trust and credibility
  • Youre structured selfmotivated and have a quantitative problemsolving approach
