The Surgical First Assistant (SFA) is responsible for providing assistance to the surgical team before during and after surgical procedures. The SFA works closely with the surgeon to ensure the efficient and safe completion of surgeries. This role requires a strong understanding of surgical techniques anatomy and medical terminology.
Requirements
Prepare operating room for surgical procedures ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
Assist the surgeon with patient positioning draping and prepping the surgical site.
Hand instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures anticipating their needs.
Maintain a sterile field throughout the surgery to minimize the risk of infection.
Suture incisions and wounds under the direction of the surgeon.
Apply dressings and bandages as instructed by the surgeon.
