Purpose of the Job
The Assistant Grading Manager will ensure the implementation of work plans for postharvest handling including sorting grading packing storing and dispatch of graded roses to all our customers within the stipulated timeframes and customer specifications as well assist in the oversight of the work of grading supervisors quality controllers clerks and all grading & packing teams. The Assistant Grading Manager will work under the Grading Manager.
Duties and responsibilities:
Assist the grading manager in the implementation of all activities relating to postharvest handling and dispatch of flowers.
Provide an oversight role for the activities/performance of grading supervisors quality controllers and clerks;
In conjunction with the grading manager complete weekly and annual performance appraisals for all grading supervisors quality controllers and clerks and discuss the same with the managing director
Regular Monitoring of the harvested crop to evaluate crop cultural practices and crop health status with regard to pests Diseases and Crop Nutrition
Confirm daily attendance of workers and ensure reporting times and stipulated working hours are adhered to
Oversee the grading supervisors quality controllers and clerks to ensure the quality standards are adhered to.
In liaison with the grading manager prepare work plans for the grading packing and dispatch of flowers and ensure implementation of the same within stipulated timeframes
Prepare and/or review production forecast vs actual graded flowers per variety and submit to the manager while doing a followup to confirm all data capture and data entry is accurate.
Communicate with production teams daily and make regular visits to confirm quality issues
In conjunction with the grading manager and the sales teams receive confirm and process customer orders in a timely manner ensuring the highest quality standards are maintained with all customers.
Undertake any other duties assigned by the management
JOB SPECIFICATION
Degree in Floriculture Horticulture Agronomy and/or Agriculture Sciences.
Working experience in commercial flower farming and have at least six (6) years of working experience packhouse operations;
Of the six (6) years experience at least two (2) years must have been at senior supervisor/assistant manager level.
The ideal candidate must in addition have postharvest experience including harvesting cooling grading packaging and shipping of flowers.
