Join us at Compass Box and take on an exciting set of responsibilities within our Operations Team. We are in search of an Operations Manager to take accountability for a variety of crucial production and procurement responsibilities.

As the Operations Manager you will be the main person responsible for dry goods procurement and production planning. You will manage our Sales and Operations Planning cycle have end to end visibility of the production schedule and order dry goods proactively at the best pricing available.

Who will be by your side:

You will report to the Operations Director Matt de Moraes and be part of the core Operations team. We do great work together and we do it in a collaborative supportive and flexible environment. The way we work is nonhierarchical and we bring our whole selves to the workplace.

Where it all happens:

Our brandnew stunning office and blending rooms are in Richmond London. We expect the successful candidate to spend more of their time in the office than working from home but we will make appropriate flexible arrangements to support colleague wellbeing when required.

Alternatively we welcome applications from candidates based in Scotland with proximity to Edinburgh and Glasgow. If Scotland based this role is offered on a remote basis.

What wed love you to do:

As a valued member of our team you will have a broad role with great variety and development opportunities. This role will suit someone who is comfortable with ambiguity and working flexibly learning as they go and adapting calmly to situations requiring urgent problem solving.

We require someone who has a proven track record of strong accountability in previous roles; who doesnt require micromanagement (we dont do that here!) and who looks for process improvement whenever they get involved in a project.

We expect the highest standards of professional conduct. As a manager within the business you will be expected to support your colleagues challenge positively and champion high performance but also wellbeing internally.

You will have some important responsibilities:

  • Managing all production activity by leveraging our in house and systemsbased tools to determine when and what bottling activity is required
  • Managing the Sales and Operations Planning process globally to tie up Commercial and Operational activity
  • Coordinating with suppliers of dry goods determining when new orders need to be placed then going out to tender for the best pricing possible to maximise our gross margin
  • Monthly and ad hoc reporting for our Month End processes COGS reporting and production outturns
  • Supporting the Finance team within Compass Box with cash flow reporting on your purchases and productions to maximise the utility of our cash
  • Contributing to the New Product Development process both with the procurement of dry goods and input into the creative elements
  • Onboarding and working with any new supplier partners including bottling and manufacturing businesses

Heres what we are looking for professionally speaking:

  • Youll have at least 5 years of professional experience ideally in the whisky industry with a strong understanding of the whisky market.
  • Highly analytical and comfortable working with remembering and summarising complex detail.
  • Strong financial acumen and an understanding of basic accounting concepts in business.
  • Hands on experience managing a production calendar or S&OP process ideally both.
  • You are a skilled project manager who understands how to prioritise issues organise solutions logically and communicate the impact of events with the right stakeholders.
  • Experienced negotiator having procured dry goods or spirit in bulk for other businesses in the past.
  • Experience working within or an understanding of a bottling operation will be a significant advantage.
  • A great nose for whisky or for tasting nuances in flavour will be advantageous as this role is an active member of our nosing panel.
  • Experience in NPD management also an advantage.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of operational systems (Unleashed) and PowerBI a plus.
  • WSET or similar qualification showing a strong background of knowledge in Whisky helpful.
