Vacancy General Manager (Commercial Poultry)
Location: Ogere Ogun State
JOB OVERVIEW;
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director in charge of Poultry activities the GM will be responsible for managing and supervising the farm operations including the care and welfare of the poultry birds feeding breeding vaccination schedules egg collection and sales and overall maintenance of the poultry house. Responsibilities will typically include monitoring the overall day to day business activities of the farm and promotes sales of all farm produce and products.
BREAKDOWN OF DUTIES;
Supervises daytoday activities of the poultry Division.
Monitors weather conditions and adjusts strategies accordingly to avoid losses.
Protects operational interests by inspecting poultry farm every day to determine maturity detect diseases and isolate insect infestations.
Ensures proper working environment and maintenance of physical infrastructure of the farm. Oversee general maintenance and upkeeps of the poultry farm on a regular basis
Oversees maintenance of poultry production facilities and equipment such as brooder units feeders drinkers.
Ensures that the ventilation system is responsive to environmental change easy to clean and capable of maintaining air quality.
Ensures repair of tools and equipment on a timely basis when required.
Ensures that the poultry farm and its surrounding area is cleaned on a regular basis
Ensures that disinfection/fumigation procedures are followed on a regular basis
Understands and takes corrective action against factors that affect feed intake by poultry
Ensures compliance with waste management procedures. Ensure that all the areas of the poultry farm are well lit. Ensure that all hazard areas of the farm are clearly identified either centrally or at the location of the hazard and appropriate corrective measures adopted.
Ensures provision of protective clothing/gear for any visitors to the farm.
Plan direct and report on the utilization of production resources including poultry farm workers Ensure that poultry production equipment and poultry production facilities are utilized fully.
Recognizes and responds to poultry health (including diseases such as bird flu) and production related problems
Plans and oversees shed preparation and stocking procedures pertaining to poultry production. Monitor feed stocks and respond to feed quality and quality requirements
Responsible for uptodate market price customer s bookings
Overseeing point of lay(POL) placement
Regularly liaising with the COO on flocks allotment and their performances at the growing unit before shifting.
Monitors farm purchase requirements
Oversee Egg store activities and distributions
Monitors sales and marketing activities of prepacks and open crates
Prepare production reports on weekly basis to CEO and ED
Documents and maintains records of production related problems identify corrective measures and monitor and report results Activities; Document and maintain records of costs incurred (related to management of poultry farm)
Documents and maintains records of cost inputs for each production cycle.
Ensures personal hygiene by using of gloves masks goggles boots etc. whenever required. Wear appropriate protective clothing or use protective equipment as and when required.
Manage biosecurity protocols and achieve quality standards. Monitor biosecurity protocols by ensuring restricted entry of visitors using proper disinfectants minimizing vehicle movements undertaking prevention measures for minimizing infectionsetc. in accordance with workplace standards
Ensures compliance with quality standards and regulations of the organization
Ensures minimum mortality rate for the birds
Inspects and evaluates quality standards in terms of:
o Air quality of the poultry farm
o Accessibility/quality of feed and water
o Quality of produce
o Worker efficiency Activities; Establish work relations with key people for marketing related activities.
Report any accidents incidents or problems without delay and take necessary immediate action to reduce further danger
Clean maintain and monitor poultry shelters and equipment periodically
Ensure proper disposal of waste and other potentially hazardous materials
Identifies documents and reports problems such as rodents and pests to management; Conducts workplace checklist audits before and after work to ensure safety and hygiene Activities;
Manages and leads a team of farm supervisors and other farm officers (related to management of poultry farm). This is about managing the team on daytoday basis ensuring their deployment motivating them by involving them in various engagement initiatives at the work area helping them improve the skills levels and managing their grievances in the best possible manner in order to maximize the people productivity.
Receives and reviews daily reports and makes critical decisions accordingly.
Ensures that the team is aware of the schedule and job expectations on a daily basis
Involve the team in regular meetings to communicate information intended for them
Ensure communication to the team on any changes in policies/ processes by the organization through required verbal/ written mechanisms
Perform any other duties within the scope of the position which from time to time may be delegated by the Executive Director in charge.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 10 (ten) years cognate industry experience
- Professional certifications e.g. ICAN ANAN ACCA etc. are strongly preferred
