The Nutrition Course Director role:

The Nutrition Course Director provides academic leadership for our highly regarded MSc Nutrition Science & Practice course. We want you to provide students with a high quality experience and to contribute to the continuous improvement of the course and College. Youll be responsible for leading a committed and experienced teaching team delivering and developing our highly regarded MSc Nutrition course supporting students through their studies and contributing to academic strategy and policy across the College. Your focus will be on the teaching and learning quality aspects of the programme with regard to the profession of Nutrition. Teaching and learning on the course takes place on weekends and is delivered across the classroom teaching clinic (Mondays) and online.

The Course Director will work closely alongside:

  • The Student Services Officer who manages administrative student enquiries registry requirements and feedback and evaluation processes and assists with construction and management of the virtual learning environment.
  • The Student Support Officer who will provide pastoral support information and advice to individual students with a particular focus on specific learning difficulties and provide information and training for staff.
  • The Module Leaders who are responsible for module governance and assessment liaising on module design and delivery student progress and support needs.
  • Clinic Supervisors who run the Monday teaching clinic.

The Northern College of Acupuncture MSc Nutrition Course:

The NCAs Nutrition course was established in 2010 and is accredited by the Nutritional Therapy Education Commission (NTEC). The course is validated by the University College of Osteopathy and currently recruits 1225 students annually.

The College:

Our College is a small independent teaching institution and educational charity registered with the Office for Students. We are based in a large elegant Georgian town house in the centre of York with excellent facilities and transport links. Alongside the MSc Nutrition the College also offers a BSc in Acupuncture and an MSc in Chinese Herbal Medicine. Our busy and wellrespected teaching clinics provide subsidised acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatment and nutritional advice for the local community.

Nutrition Course Director

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experienced Nutritionist with a qualification at degree level or equivalent.
  • Teaching experience in Higher Education.
  • Proven ability to lead a team and work effectively with others.
  • High level of organisation and planning skills.
  • IT proficiency and ability to pick up new systems quickly.
  • Excellent standard of communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to supporting students education.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • PGCert HE or willingness to work towards this qualification.
  • Experience working in HE educational management.
  • Strong academic background in the delivery of a clinical programme.
  • Member of BANT

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic leadership and delivery of the Nutrition course ensuring quality standards are met.
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with the student services officer to deliver the course effectively for staff and students.
  • Liaise regularly with teaching staff students and student services.
  • Participate in the Colleges Performance Review Programme.
  • Undertake appraisals for key teaching staff.
  • Chair or attend meetings of the Board of Studies Student Progress Committee Assessment Boards Academic Board Senior Management Team and other meetings as necessary.
  • Provide emergency cover for clinic supervisors and lecturers.
  • Maintain accreditation and validation of the Nutrition Science and Practice course liaising with the teaching team and Principal.
  • Develop implement and monitor the Annual Action Plan for the Nutrition Science and Practice course.
  • Take the lead responsibility for the continuing development of the Nutrition Science and Practice course curriculum including the operation of College Academic Quality Assurance processes.
  • Liaise with the College Services Manager to recruit and induct new lecturers to the Nutrition Science and Practice course in conjunction with module leaders where appropriate.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager and Principal to recruit entrants to the Nutrition Science and Practice course each year.

Job Type: Parttime 18 hours per week.

Hours of work: Flexible working hours with an element of homeworking. Availability on Mondays for clinic. Saturday work may be necessary up to twice a month to support students and introductory days. The successful candidate must also be available for the Colleges weekly meetings day on Thursdays.

Salary: The starting salary is 39318.41 per annum pro rata (Spinal Point 21) increasing to 40629.02 after successfully completing your 6month probationary period.
