As an independent specialist they work with a wide range of organisations and have an indepth understanding of the requirements and priorities specific to each sector As a part of their specialist engineer team you will be training and qualified to a high level and working for a company that is accredited to industry leading standards

On offer is a salary of up to per year plus overtime company van mobile phone tablet pension scheme days holiday plus all bank holidays and career progression Please note that there is a call out rota with the expectation of being on rota one week in every five weeks the company is by recruiting more team members aiming to reduce this to one in six weeks

The Fire Alarm Engineer will

Be completing works to existing fire alarm systems which will include maintenance inspection troubleshooting repair remedial extension commissioning and reconfiguring across various buildings and customer premises This is a key role ensuring that fire alarms and life safety systems remain functional compliant with regulations and are capable of detecting and alerting occupants to potential fires You will need to demonstrate a strong technical background in electrical and electronic systems a commitment to safety excellent problem solving and effective communication skills This role is crucial in maintaining the functionality of fire alarm systems contributing to building safety and occupant wellbeing

As the Fire Alarm Engineer you will be

  • Working closely with Architects Building Owners and other Stakeholders to design fire alarm systems that meet the relevant safety codes and standards This will include determining the appropriate placement of smoke detectors heat detectors fire alarms notification devices and control panels
  • Responsible for physically installing the components of fire alarms and fire safety systems which will involve wiring mounting devices and connecting them to a central control panel
  • Programming and configuring control panels and devices to operate in accordance with the specific requirements of the building or facility which will include setting alarm thresholds testing communication protocols and establishing zones
  • Diagnosing issues and malfunctions in fire alarms and fire safety systems and taking corrective action to resolve problems This may involve replacing faulty components reprogramming control panels or conducting repairs to ensure the systems optimal performance
  • Responding promptly to emergency service calls related to fire alarms and fire safety system failures false alarms or other issues Quickly diagnosing problems and implementing temporary or permanent solutions to ensure the safety of occupants
  • Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance testing inspections and repairs performed on fire alarms and fire safety systems
  • Communicating with clients building owners occupants and facility managers to schedule maintenance visits discuss findings and recommend necessary repairs and upgrades providing clear explanations of technical issues and solutions in a nontechnical manner
  • Ensuring you stay informed about advancements in fire alarm technology industry best practices and emerging trends attending relevant training sessions workshops and seminars to further enhance your skills and knowledge
  • Adhering to safety protocols and guidelines when working with electrical systems and potentially hazardous situations
  • Collaborating with other fire safety professionals (fire inspectors building engineers electricians) to address broader fire safety concerns and ensure coordinated efforts
  • As required assist the maintenance team
  • As required assist the testing and inspections team

Other key things to note

  • This role does require being part of an oncall rota one week in every five it is expected that this will become one week in every six once all new job vacancies are filled
  • After completing your probationary period you will be able to buy an additional days holiday or sell days holiday back to the company
  • Your company van can be used for personal use
  • All your travelling time is considered as working hours so includes travel to and from your first / last appointment which adds around to your salary

  • A minimum of two years previous experience
  • A strong technical background in electrical and electronic systems
  • A commitment to safety
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • If you are GENT registered that would be an advantage but if not then gaining GENT registration will form part of your training
