Client is seeking a high-energy candidate for Plant Controller position. Client is a growing manufacturing company located near O'Hare Airport and are looking for a solid financial leader to drive our pursuit to maximize profitability and optimize our financial reporting, accounting processes, and cash, asset, and inventory control.
This position is responsible for supporting the management team's timely oversight of manufacturing costs and expenditures and assisting them in maximizing profitability through timely and relevant reporting, analysis, and communication. This role owns the inventory valuation, standard costing, variance analysis, and related processes during monthly, quarterly, and annual closing cycles.

Responsibilities and Duties
Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Develop, propose, and maintain controls needed for financial data integrity, accumulation, and reporting
  • Calculate and assure that period costs are properly capitalized in accordance to GAAP, tax and internal procedures
  • Assist in the preparation, tracking, reporting and analysis of annual budgets, general ledger, budget components, product costing, forecasts and related variances
  • Perform assigned, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual close activities within closing timelines and assist the organization in any other areas that may require assistance in meeting their closing timelines
  • Maintain the accuracy and timeliness of data used in balance sheet inventory valuation and calculating the cost of goods sold in accordance with various standards such as GAAP, tax, and internal guidelines
  • Oversee customer invoicing
  • Responsible for accounts receivable and collections
  • Oversee accounts payable - ensure timely, accurate payments
  • Construct and/or maintain data accumulation systems to report inventory valuation and margins by various dimensions (i.e. standard cost, current cost, margins by part, product line, customer, cost center, breakeven analysis, etc.)
  • Work with other business functions to assure that physical inventory, cycle counts and excess and obsolete inventory evaluations are performed on a timely basis, and that results are analyzed for root cause issues and communicated in a timely basis to the appropriate management to improve any training, controls or procedures that may be required to improve results
  • Lead accounting for fixed asset management and assist organization with fixed asset tracking
  • Prepare and submit bi-weekly payroll, and process quarterly and annual payroll tax returns
  • Develop associated internal reports and processes to reconcile payroll, taxes and related accounts
  • Remit employee contributions to outside vendors
  • Assist with employment-related reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Create and review adjusting journal entries as needed
  • Analyze, interpret and report financial and operational data to management
  • Create and carry out month-end procedures
  • Provide year-end support for external accounting firm, including reconciliations
  • Manage bank account transactions and reconciliations
  • Track and report cash management activities and ensure proper bank transaction processes are followed
  • Support the organization in various other tasks, as requested


Key Qualifications and Traits

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of plant/cost accounting, financial reporting, payroll and related taxes, and P&L analysis experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with small to mid-size privately-owned manufacturing company accounting, banking, cash management, taxes, insurance, credit, etc. is critical and required.
  • Experience in margin and variance analysis, accounts receivables, accounts payables, cash management
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
  • Very strong ERP system knowledge in a manufacturing environment as it pertains to order costing, inventory, labor and overhead rates, and general ledger is mandatory
  • Very strong proficiency in higher level Excel functions (e.g. pivot tables, lookup, graphs, etc.), and other key Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills to train, persuade, and lead change at various levels of the organization
