Job Details
- Shift: Day - 10 hours, 6am-2:30pm, Monday-Friday
- Work location: Onsite; San Carlos, CA
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing the Operating Room:
- Ensure that the operating room is set up and ready for surgery.
- Sterilize and arrange surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assisting the Surgical Team:
- Hand instruments and supplies to surgeons and other team members during procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon to maintain a smooth flow during surgery.
- Assist with patient positioning on the operating table.
- Maintaining Sterile Field:
- Follow strict aseptic techniques to maintain a sterile environment in the operating room.
- Monitor and enforce infection control measures.
- Instrumentation:
- Select and pass instruments to surgeons according to the specific procedure being performed.
- Keep track of instruments and ensure they are returned for proper sterilization after use.
- Handling Specimens:
- Assist in the collection, preparation, and labeling of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure proper handling and transport of specimens.
- Equipment Management:
- Set up and test surgical equipment to ensure it is functioning properly.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues during surgery.
- Patient Care:
- Assist with patient preparation before surgery, including positioning and draping.
- Provide emotional support to patients as needed.
- Communication:
- Communicate effectively with other members of the surgical team.
- Relay information between the surgical team and other hospital staff.
- Postoperative Duties:
- Assist with the cleaning and restocking of the operating room after surgery.
- Transfer patients to the recovery room and provide necessary information to the recovery room staff.
- Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
- Follow hospital policies, procedures, and protocols related to surgical technology.
- Stay updated on advancements in surgical technology and techniques.
- Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies in the operating room and assist as needed.
- Documentation:
- Maintain accurate and complete records of surgical procedures, including counts of instruments and supplies.
Requirements
Education
- Completion of an accredited program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or formal structure surgical program, (e.g., military services)
Licenses and Certifications
- BLS - Basic Life Support
- CST - Certified Surgical Tech
Experience
Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

Education Qualifications Bachelor s Degree or higher in Nursing from an accredited academic institution. Licenses and Certifications RN - Registered Nurse BLS - Basic Life Support Experience 2 years experience as registered nurse, with a preference for candidates who have prior clinical experience in dermatology or oncology
