Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Gas Engineer to join our Strategic Housing, Development and Property Services team on a 3 month contract with the opportunity to extend. The primary role is to provide operational housing maintenance services, ensuring the continuous improvement of the service. Working under the guidance of the designated Repairs Officer, the candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks including inspections, repairs, servicing, improvements, and replacements. A significant emphasis is placed on enhancing the quality of customer service and the overall ad hoc repair service.

Tasks

  1. Uphold and represent NNC's standards and values during working hours.
  2. Execute individual or joint tasks within the designated work area, adhering to current RAMS.
  3. Adhere to work schedules, ensuring punctuality for appointments or target times.
  4. Perform trade-based work in line with qualifications, training, and multi-skilling areas as outlined in skills audits.
  5. Utilize PDA, mobile phones, or other tech for direct communication with the Repairs Officer or office-based staff.
  6. Plan daily workload, manage stock/van, order materials, and ensure tasks are completed to set standards.
  7. Occasionally report directly to temporary site setups.
  8. Work individually or in teams on:
  • Responsive/Emergency Service
  • Cyclical Routine Service
  • Contract/Planned Maintenance/Voids Service
  1. Operate based on appointments set by the call centre and communicate any issues promptly.
  2. Adhere to method statements for all work, emphasizing customer care and quality.
  3. Complete all paperwork, electronic reports, and certificates as required.
  4. Prioritize customer satisfaction.
  5. Comply with safe working practices and the council s Safety Policy.
  6. Maintain vehicles and complete associated paperwork.
  7. Attend team briefings or training sessions.
  8. Utilize the council s multi-skill agreement.
  9. Perform allied duties as required.
  10. Operate PDA efficiently in line with NNC business objectives.
  11. Ensure gas safety for all NNC-owned domestic properties.
  12. Ensure all work complies with Gas Installation and Use regulations 1998 and the latest Gas industry unsafe situation procedure edition.

Requirements

  • Certifications:

  • CCN 1 Core gas safety element

  • CPA1, CKR1, CENWAT 1, MET 1, HTR 1, Range Cooker, Unvented hot water.

  • Multi Skilled, OIL, LPG, Non-Domestic Gas Qualification.

  • Experience:

  • Time-served apprenticeship.

  • Sufficient practical experience in the field.

  • Proven track record in housing maintenance.

  • Skills & Abilities:

  • Numerate and able to handle calculations related to the job.

  • Health and Safety aware ensuring all tasks are completed with utmost safety.

  • Strong customer care skills able to handle and address customer concerns effectively.

  • Excellent communicator both written and verbal.

  • Good interpersonal skills able to work well with colleagues and clients.

  • Aware of Equal Opportunities relevant to the role.

  • Personal Attributes:

  • Motivated individual with a proactive approach.

  • Team player able to work collaboratively with others.

  • Willing to undertake training as and when required, especially to cover changes in regulation and legislation.

  • Other Requirements:

  • Must hold a valid driving licence or be able to arrange own transport.
