Designer - Steering Wheels

The role entails providing design support, concept, prototype and production designs.

What you ll do:

• Problem solve the packaging challenges respecting Autoliv Internal technical and manufacturing standards.
• Work with both Internal Engineers, Designers, Tooling Experts and Manufacturing Engineers as well as External Customers - Studio Team and Engineers.
• Lead the design of Steering Wheel and Driver Airbag.
• Work with Experts team to collaborate and provide designs that are manufacturing feasible respecting the Autoliv Internal standards.
• Provide 3D models feasible for tool kick-off within the allotted time.
• Perform quality checks for data quality and integrity before TKO.
• CAD Data management in Autoliv PLM.

What is required:

• Must have minimum High School Diploma or equivalent; an associate degree is preferred
• Must have minimum 10 years experience in a related design discipline (Automotive Interior Design and or Steering Wheel and Driver Airbag Design)
• Experience working with customer Studio team for class-A Surface feasibility
• Must have experience designing plastic Injection molding, sheet metal and casting parts with clear understanding of tooling requirements
• Must be proficient in Catia V5 surfacing & Parametric modeling
• GD&T experience is required
• Safety restraint experience preferred
• Some local travel is needed within Metro Detroit
• Occasional travel is needed for Mexico (1 or 2 times a year)
• Willingness to work overtime based on project needs
