At Northgate Lighting Ltd, we are searching for a talented Lighting Designer to join our Project Sales Team. As a Lighting Designer, your primary responsibility will be to create innovative and efficient lighting designs using software like Relux. You'll work closely with contractors to determine the optimal number of light fittings required for various projects. This role requires a deep understanding of lighting principles, technical aspects, and regulations.

In addition to lighting design, you'll also support various operational tasks, ensuring a positive customer experience.

  • Lighting Designs: Using lighting design software such as Relux to create lighting designs that optimise illumination while minimising energy consumption. Collaborate closely with contractors and clients to ensure designs align with project goals and exceed expectations. Engage with customers to understand their requirements and employ your product knowledge to suggest appropriate products from our range.
  • Value Engineering: Analyse competitor lighting designs to identify opportunities to reduce the number of luminaires and associated costs while maintaining or improving lighting quality, offering clients superior value and savings. Demonstrate a strong understanding of our products, their features, and benefits to guide customers towards the best choices.
  • Order Management: Efficiently process customer orders, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established guidelines. Collaborate with the purchasing, technical, and warehouse teams to facilitate smooth order fulfilment. Keep customers informed about order status, tracking, and any relevant updates.
  • Delivery Coordination:Confirm delivery dates with customers and coordinate closely with internal teams to meet committed timelines. Address any potential delivery issues proactively, ensuring customers receive their orders on time and in optimal condition.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work collaboratively with various internal stakeholders such as purchasing, technical, and warehouse teams to facilitate seamless information exchange. Maintain open lines of communication to ensure a synchronized approach to addressing customer needs and order fulfilment.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong customer relationships by providing exceptional service and support throughout the entire customer journey. Address inquiries, resolve concerns, and ensure customers feel valued and heard.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Utilise lighting design software, such as Relux/Dialux to create comprehensive lighting plans for projects.
  • Collaborate with contractors and clients to understand project requirements and objectives. Calculate the number of light fittings needed for each project, ensuring optimal lighting solutions.
  • Review and improve existing lighting designs, looking for opportunities to enhance efficiency and reduce the number of luminaires.
  • Interpret and apply relevant building regulations related to lighting design.
  • Work closely with the Head of Project Sales and other team members to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Collaborate with the Sales and Customer Support teams to address customer enquiries and provide technical guidance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive operational excellence and process improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring smooth coordination of operations.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards within the scope of business operations.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

Educated to A Level standard or equivalent.

Desirable

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Essential

  • Proven experience in lighting design, preferably in a similar role.
  • Proficiency in lighting design software, such as Relux or Dialux.
  • Possess an excellent appreciation of lighting technicalities, including Lumens, IES files, UGR (Unified Glare Rating), and other relevant metrics.
  • Knowledge of building regulations relevant to lighting design.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking and a passion for innovative lighting solutions
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on industry trends.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable

  • Project management experience or certification (e.g., PMP).
  • An understanding of lighting management systems, including Zigbee, DALI, BEMS, Central Battery, and Stand-alone EM.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Effective communicator and team player.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a changing environment.

SALARY

Salary: £28,000.00-£33,000.00 per year D.O.E.

HOURS & LOCATION

This role is for 40 hours per week (Between Mon to Fri 9:00 – 17:00), based in Bramley, Leeds.
