Job Description

National nonprofit in education services is hiring for an experience Controller, ideal candidate would bring expert knowledge in nonprofit accounting and grants management experience. This is a direct hire, hyrbid position based in Oakland reporting to the CFO and oversees a team of 5. Salary DOE $140,000 - 150,000

Position Summary
  • Manage all day-to-day accounting operations and ensure they are carried out with a high level of efficiency, precision, and integrity. Specific duties include:
  • Establish, maintain and monitor a system of internal controls to ensure accurate accounting and reporting.
  • Manage the bi-weekly payroll process and staff to ensure that payroll is performed accurately and timely and payroll accounts are reconciled.
  • Prepare organizational cash flow forecast by working in partnership with program and development leadership, as well as other senior management.
  • Lead the annual audit process and maintain relationships with external auditors.
  • Lead the month-end and year-end close process, including the review and approval of journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Produce monthly financials
  • Lead accounting team ad-hoc projects to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Team Management
    • Lead, manage, and develop accounting team, manage and coach the team on growth & development of key competencies to ensure team and individual success on individual goals & development.
Qualifications
  • BA/BS Degree required
  • At least 5 years of controllership experience
  • Recent experience with non-profit accounting systems, fund accounting, and government funding compliance.
  • Knowledge ofgrants management
  • Knowledge of non-profit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Demonstrated success as a manager and developer of people and teams.
  • High level of self-awareness, humility, and emotional intelligence.
