Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission is looking for a Legal Clerk for a contract role in Atlanta, GA. This is initially for a 1-year contract with 4 additional optional years (for a total of 5 years). Candidates must be U.S. Citizens and be able to clear an extensive background check / clearance investigation by OSHRC.Serves as a long term temporary Legal Assistant with responsibilities of providing administrative assistance to the judges and staff of the Atlanta Regional Judges Office of the United States Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC).


Responsibilities:

Perform a full range of Legal Assistant duties related to the processing of cases and assists with a variety of legal support tasks, and ensures that appropriate data is entered into the OSHRC E-filing case management system.

Drafts routine orders and types and finalizes decisions and other legal documents that comply with procedural, grammatical, and stylistic requirements. He/she serves as liaison for the Judges with the parties and the public.

Tracks time sensitive events by use of the Outlook calendar and the OSHRC E-filing case management system for scheduled hearings and settlement conferences.

Independently prepares correspondence for the Judge s signature on routine matters arising from case files.

Dockets all party submissions using the OSHRC E-filing system and ensures a copy of each electronic submission is printed and placed in the official paper file.

Arranges for court space and court reporting services and composes, types and signs letters confirming court space arrangements.

Maintains contact with parties involved in cases in order to apprise the Judge of the current status as hearing dates approach.

At the direction of the Judge, cancels hearings and follows up to ensure timely submission of settlement documents once attorneys advise that a case has settled.

Receives telephone calls and visitors, determining which should be referred to the Judges.

Coordinates office travel activities and prepares vouchers in accordance with Review Commission policies and procedures.

Performs other related duties based on the needs of the Office.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma is required with a strong preference for the individual to have an associate s degree.
  • A minimum of 2 years of administrative assistance experience in a professional environment, with a strong preference for an individual that has worked in a court setting.
  • Ability to provide administrative information and assistance concerning case or file to other agencies or organizations.
  • Must have good communication skills (both oral and written) as well as be well versed in the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Must have good attention to details skills:
  • Ability to prepare and format management reports.
  • Ability to manipulate, transfer, compute, and print information.
  • Ability to review and analyze data and information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to enter and retrieve data from databases.
  • Maintain internal status information on the disposition of designated information, files, and assets.
  • Work and interact professionally and effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Meet and deal with people in a courteous and customer service manner.
