Benefits Specialist
Responsibilities:

  • Interpret human resources policies, and explain applicable workers compensation, disability, leave policies and procedures.
  • Provide guidance on human resources processes, procedures and issues related to Leave & Disability. Resolve issues as appropriate and consult with manager/director to resolve more complex issues.
  • Provide customer service-based responses by applying information, tools, processes, to client inquiries/service requests via phone, computer-based chat, email, or in-person.
  • Provide guidance to employees, managers and HR colleagues on Federal and State leave and disability laws, including the American with Disabilities Act Amendment Act (ADA/AA), California Family Rights Act (CFRA), Fair Employment Housing Act (FEHA), Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Pregnancy Disability Leave Act (PDL), and California Workers Compensation Act.
  • Advise on leave & disability documentation requirements, including how to revise documents to ensure all university and legal requirements are met
  • Support leave & disability compliance programs

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience:
Associate degree and four years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage shifting priorities, and handle numerous time-sensitive projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  • Demonstrated creativity, problem solving, critical analysis, initiative, judgment and, decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated solid planning and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong relevant subject matter knowledge.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sitting, grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
  • Occasionally use a telephone.
  • Rarely lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh 11-20 pounds.

M-F 8am to 5pm
