  • Conduct materials, formulation, and design evaluations for new product versions and new generations of electrolyte products.
  • Design and develop electrolyte formulations to meet customer requirements for both conventional and next-gen Li-ion battery chemistries.
  • Compose and conduct experiments on prototype cells including but not limited to electrochemical testing, abuse tests, and cell teardowns.
  • Design and execute experiments based on DOE and Taguchi methodologies.
  • Method development to implement new and existing techniques to advance research and development goals.
  • Create empirical and theoretical models to guide electrolyte and battery designs.
  • Analyze and present technical results to management and customers.
  • Support battery design and manufacturing as a subject matter expert in electrolytes.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of experience in the Li-ion battery field, with a focus on the implementation of novel materials in next-generation chemistries.
  • Masters, Ph.D., or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Strong background in the characterization, formulation and implementation of electrolytes preferred.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of cell lithium-ion battery materials, components, performance, cell testing/data analysis, and failure modes.
  • Proficiency in electrolyte characterization techniques, prototype cell assembly, electrochemical testing techniques, working in a glovebox or dry room.
  • Familiarity with DOE, FMEA and Taguchi methodologies preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to combine theory with empirical observation.
  • Ability to interact effectively with suppliers, partners, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Self-motivated, persistent, hands-on, and results-oriented.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
