Job Description

OPERATIONS MANAGER - Power Plant

This position has the responsibility of providing leadership to the plant operations personnel, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of generating equipment. Manages the daily operation of the facility to ensure that it is operated safely and efficiently. Establishes and maintains procedures for start-ups, shutdowns, normal operations, abnormal operations, and emergency operations; monitors and tracks plant performance; and prepares outage and failure reports. Ensures that all plant operations comply with all regulations, laws, and permits.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Manages the Shift Supervisors' activities and other Operations Department members. Maintaining safety and operational environmental standards as well as generating requirements and plant efficiency is essential.
  • Ensures operating personnel are properly trained and adhere to established procedures and practices by reviewing and improving operational processes.
  • Ensures employee accountability and conduct are aligned with operational processes through the development of action plans.
  • Investigation of abnormalities and incidents on equipment to ensure that it is available and performing as it should and to minimize the need for maintenance.
  • Ensures that all plant operation reports are prepared in a timely manner and investigates any forced outages that occur.
  • Provides complete safety training and orientation to all members of the operations group by recruiting, interviewing, and assigning employment candidates.
  • Assists with the preparation of operating department budgets and/or makes recommendations for the capital budget to the General Manager.
  • Assists in evaluating and troubleshooting equipment abnormalities by reviewing and providing operational input to maintenance.
  • Develops departmental and group goals based on market dynamics and customer, employee, owner, and stakeholder needs.
  • Assists the EHS compliance supervisor with all plant safety programs.
  • Coordinates plant training activities, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Ensure that best practices are replicated throughout every operation shift team.
  • As the primary point of contact for communicating information and production issues, the Operations Manager will also be the primary point of contact for ISO-NE Lead Market participants.
  • Responsible for overseeing Operations personnel functions pertaining to NERC Reliability Standards including Bulk Electric System malfunctions, relay operation reports, and all other events with a time-bound specific reporting criteria.
  • Must be knowledgeable in GADs reporting, Microsoft Office Suite tools, and the Maximo EAM software. Siemens T3000 control systems or Siemens combustion turbine experience is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Overnight travel is required
  • Must be physically able to transit through plant facilities and stairways
  • Must be able to work in a standard office environment and operate a computer and other office equipment

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 10+ years of power plant or similar experience required.
  • At least 5 years of experience supervising technical, supervisory, and administrative personnel is required. Strong leadership and motivational skills are required.
