Tasks

About the role:

As a Back End Engineer in this role, you will be responsible for integrating platform capabilities with our client's critical path customer-facing applications (via APIs, microservices, and/or database modelling) on the trading platform team. Your work will include instrumenting systems for performance, and enhance for throughout. You will also work on ensuring these data offerings are available to our client's production ML models and quantitative analysts.

Your role will include choosing and implementing the appropriate technologies for scaling time-series data access patterns with data events flow to multiple microservices while taking into account the unique domain knowledge of the client's business.

Requirements

Technical competencies:

• Proven experience writing highly-maintainable, performant Python code
• Understanding of git and experience working with a rapid git-based deployment cycle
• Experience using GraphQL libraries such as: apollo, apollo server, mercurius, graphql pubsub
• Experience working with time series data (experience with PostgreSQL & TimescaleDb is a plus)
• Used to using Celery & Flower, AWS SQS, or AWS Eventbridge
• End-to-end monitoring & alerting experience (Cloudwatch, Datadog, etc)
• Used to building modern SaaS applications and REST or GraphQL APIs REST APIs
• Experience scaling NoSQL databases (e.g .MongoDB / DynamoDB)
• Deep understanding of HTTP(S)/{2,3} including cache-control, HTTP response codes, with context for modern REST & GraphQL APIs

Non-Technical competencies:

• Experience in a professional engineering role iteratively shipping software with a team of close collaborators
• Experience maintaining a high-degree of ownership and transparency in deliverables
• Problem-solving skills that balance innovation with pragmatic technology choices to solve business needs
• Comfortable working in a dynamic production environment and take care of client expectations effectively
• Distinct customer focus and quality mindset

• Exceptional communication skills, able to communicate complex ideas in a simple fashion
