The Senior Chemicals & Plastics Market & Technology Strategist primary role is to provide long-term perspectives on chemical and plastics technologies of interest to This Company. This includes: performing markets, policy and technology strategic research and techno- economic assessments, as well as providing technical advice and insight to internal stakeholders supported by rigorous modeling and outlook analysis.

Duties & Responsibilities:
You will be required to perform the following:
  • Timely preparation of high-quality insights and publications (i.e. outlook reports, whitepapers, deep-dives) to support corporate-level strategic decisions related to the company s technology and R&D around chemicals and plastics, and aligning those activities with business priorities.
  • Provide comprehensive industry research and analysis of conventional and emerging chemicals technologies, global chemicals and plastics market dynamics, and relevant policies and regulations impacting the energy and chemicals industry worldwide.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management and colleagues in response to enquiries pertaining to reports and industries served and supported by rigorous research and analysis of the chemicals and plastics markets, technologies and regulatory policies.
  • Keep abreast of evolving global policies and regulations impacting the chemicals and plastics market, with particular focus on plastics sustainability, waste and recycling, and determine the impact, pace of change, and challenges and opportunities for the business

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:
  • Masters degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. A PhD would be a distinct advantage.
  • Ten years of professional experience related to the Chemicals industry or consulting, including at least five in the field of petrochemicals and plastics. Experience gained from a reputable energy and chemicals consulting firm is highly-regarded.
  • Possess strong techno-economic modeling skills to assess the impact of global and regional economic, policy and technology developments on petrochemicals and plastics demand, and proven track record in modeling cost of production and technical analysis of chemical processes.
  • Have a thorough understanding of how chemical and plastics processes operate in terms of the relevance and importance of feed preparation, choice of reactor, choice of separation units and recycle processes, and choice of heat transfer technique; as well as understanding the trade-offs between selectivity and conversion.
  • An understanding of the upstream side of low-carbon and renewable energy fuels production technologies and processes would be a distinct advantage.
  • Must have achieved substantial recognition by peers as a chemicals technology expert and be able to demonstrate evidence of a proactive nature (self-starter) and desire to continue learning.
  • High-level understanding global energy markets in general, in particular oil & gas.
  • Demonstrated evidence to interact effectively with varied internal audiences including management, economists, scientists, engineers, business professionals, PR personnel, as well as with external collaborators and partners.
