Duties: Provides nursing care for psychiatric patients, including child, adolescent, geriatric and chemical dependency patients using the nursing process. Assess mental health along with physical health needs, develop nursing diagnoses, identify outcomes, plan and evaluate nursing care. Administer and/or monitor the effects and side effects of medications and treatments ordered by a physician. Ensure safety and provide milieu management and crisis intervention strategies. Patients include adults (18+), geriatric (66+), adolescents (13-17) and children (5-12).CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Patient/Staff Education: Demonstrates a commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients and families. Utilizes appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient outcomes. Assists in creating an environment that promotes educational growth opportunities for nursing peers and colleagues.4. Nursing Process: Demonstrates the use of nursing process as a problem-solving model.5. Leadership/Collaboration/Professional Development: Demonstrates respect and understanding for peers and other clinical disciplines and participates as an effective member of the patient care team to formulate an integrated approach to care. Demonstrates leadership behaviors and is committed to the development of self and others. Demonstrates the ability to assist with team building. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. To initiate and document any special treatment procedures clearly and concisely.2. To recognize signs and symptoms of chemical dependency disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.3. To recognize signs and symptoms of mental health disorders and apply/utilize appropriate treatment interventions.4. To assess, direct and intervene in crisis situations.5. To provide leadership and direction to licensed vocational nurses, psychiatric technicians and counselors.6. To provide assessment of patients' psychiatric and medical status.7. To contribute to treatment plan as a member of interdisciplinary team.8. To administer medication and medical treatment as prescribed by a Physician.9. To provide and direct milieu management.10. To document nursing care, treatment and patient's response to treatment.11. To provide health education to patients and families.12. Maintains the standards of service excellence at all times.

Skills: REQUIRED: Minimum 1 year RN experience PREFERRED: Minimum 6 months RN experience in a psych facility

Education: REQUIRED: Graduate from an Accredited School of Nursing, Active TX RN license, BLS PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse certification

Schedule Notes: Days - 7a-7p - 8 weeks, every other weekend required. *HWC will train at orientation if they don t have it*
