As Assistant Education Director of our Secondary Program, you will assist in the design and implementation of educational and residential services for high school students ages 14-22 who are blind, visually impaired and those who have multiple disabilities. As a member of a collaborative administrative team, you will facilitate and assist staff training and communication and carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with school policies and applicable laws.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Expectations include the following:
Leadership:
As a strong advocate for Perkins Secondary Programs students, staff and families, you will lead a collaborative program and help define the vision on the direction of the program in both the short and long term.
You will work with upper administration on identifying educational and program needs.
You will identify professional development needs and opportunities and encourage staff recognition.
You are innovative and will develop progressive and data-informed educational programming and interventions for a diverse student and staff group, including accessing efficient, current technology.
Case Management:
You work collaboratively to lead a multi-disciplinary team in the development of IEPs and implementation of programming for students
You will lead in coordinating the team in the implementation of IEP goals related to the core and expanded core curriculum.
You are a strong communicator with students, families, staff and other school departments.
You will assist the Local Education Authority (LEA) in developing IEPs, and oversee the implementation of programs.
You will also work with the residential team and Health Services to coordinate programs for assigned students.
Supervision:
Provide feedback to encourage professional growth and student success.
Assist staff in developing professional development plans
Provide support and guidance to ensure staff views their workload manageable and view Perkins as a positive place to work.
Compliance Management:
Ensure the program is compliant with all regulations promulgated by licensing authorities.
Assist in the development, adaptation, and implementation of curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Framework and the Expanded Core Curriculum.
Assist in the coordination of the MCAS tests and Alternate Assessment Portfolios.
Coordinate and schedule staff in-services.
Competencies
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
Ability to plan and conduct a system of continuous evaluation of each students Individual Education Plan progress, including MCAS Portfolios.
Knowledge of a variety of special education teaching techniques, staff training, curriculum development and consultation.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
Ability to think clearly in stressful situations, high stress tolerance and physical stamina required and flexibility of schedule.

Education and/or Experience
Masters degree from a recognized college or university in a related service field or Education with concentration in visual impairment, special education, or related field.
Massachusetts DESE License as Program Director, Principal or Special Education Director, or willingness to obtain certification within two years required.
Certification in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Crisis Prevention and Physical Intervention (CPPI). Trainings are provided by Perkins School for the Blind.
Three (3) years staff supervision and teaching experience with children who are visually impaired with multiple disabilities with a wide range of functional levels and ages.
