Story Development Writer - YouTube Kids Channel

Do you possess unlimited creativity and love writing stories for YouTube kids' videos? If so then this job is for you!

We want writers who are passionate about early childhood development and love to come up with creative ways to leverage data to engage children in quality screen time.

You will be responsible for writing detailed guide scripts for our portfolio of YouTube kids' channels aimed primarily at pre-school audiences.

These channels have puppet characters who have a sense of fun, curiosity and adventure, as well as imaginative and educational toy play scripts that bring strong values and child development considerations into their narrative.

The role is entirely remote and the ideal candidate needs to be highly collaborative, possess a creative mindset and be fully open to exploring the possibilities of the characters' worlds. If you have an unlimited imagination, a passion and knowledge of YouTube storytelling and experience writing content for kids - we want to hear from you!

This role is initially on a freelance basis but with the potential to become permanent.

Tasks

This is an exciting and fun role involving writing kids' stories! Brainstorm and write scripts that will show what will happen in new episodes on three exciting kids' Youtube channels.

Learn about the characters before building on, developing and adapting their world. The role will require a highly creative individual that will come up with new ideas and ways to introduce fun and exciting scenarios for the characters.

You will have to break down themes and write out what will happen in each episode. The script might involve writing lines or simply providing detailed guidelines for the talent to follow, along with details of props and actions required.

This is a fast-paced role that requires quick script turnarounds and revisions and close collaboration with the content team. You will be an integral part of shaping stories and giving flows to fun and educational narratives.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ideate, write, and structure around 5 scripts each week, on a weekly basis.
• Ideate and bring to life the characters' depth, origin story and future development
• Research the content s possibilities and pitch new creative ideas to the wider team.
• Provide easy to follow, clear and descriptive guidelines for filming teams to understand and follow.
• Utilise data and insights to develop ideas that appeal to audiences, that have evergreen appeal and/or relate to trending topics.
• Collaborate closely with the team and be an integral part of the overall production process.
• Ability to come up with nursery rhyme-style lyrics that utilise a simple word structure that is comprehensible to the pre-preschool audience would be seen as a benefit.
• Openly receiving feedback and implementing new concepts with ease.

Requirements

• 2+ years experience with writing scripts for video content, ideally for a kids audience
• Passion and interest in kids' content.
• Awareness of American parenting and kids' culture.
• Perfect grammar and spelling skills (English)
• Can adapt and re-use proven strategies that have already worked on the channel.
• Quick learner with an agile working mindset.
• Easy to adapt and accept feedback.
• Experience working with kids' content is beneficial.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adhere to deadlines.
• Able to interpret data and insights and leverage them in the creative process - research and analytics experience is a plus.
• A proactive team player who can work as well on their own as much as part of a team.
• Highly collaborative, resourceful, curious, and with a good sense of humour.
