Summary / Role Purpose

The student intern will work with a software development team on the development of prototype advanced numerical method to calculate energy release for fracture mechanics application in a solid mechanical finite element solver (Ansys MAPDL). The intern will get an opportunity to interact with Ansys global leaders. The internship will begin in May 2023 and conclude August 2023. This is a full-time opportunity and the intern is expected to work 40 hours per week.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The primary task of the internship project consists in implementing a prototype of the topological derivatives-based technology into ANSYS to extract the ERR for surface penny-shaped cracks in arbitrarily loaded 3D structural components.


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

BS in Mechanical, civil or Aeronautical Engineering,Applied Mechanics or related fields
Strong computational mechanics background
Proficiency in Fortran, C/C++, Python and Cloud environment.
Experience with commercial engineering software design and development methodologies
Proven track record of crafting robust and efficient code


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Excellent technical knowledge and commercial experience with numerical analysis, cloud technologies, object-oriented design, data structures and algorithms
Deep knowledge in finite element formulations or other numerical methods in simulation and nonlinear solution algorithms
Understanding of customer requirements andthe applications of engineering simulation software
Experience leading projects and delivering high-quality products in a large-scale commercial software development environment
Ability to overcome obstacles and drive projects to completion
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies, and to mentor junior developers
or junior developers
