The Opportunity: Gently The Art of Delivery

Gently is a last-mile delivery start-up in stealth mode with significant pre-seed funding, aimed at serving the luxury retail sector. Gently will offer differentiated on-demand and scheduled delivery services, with experience and sustainability at its heart. The project MVP will go live in Q1 2023, initially focussed on boutiques, with an expansion to premium chains and department stores before the end of the year. We believe urban last mile delivery is an industry of significant opportunity, with ever growing levels of volume and revenue, and sizable room for disruption and innovation. The Gently project exists in an untapped market niche of luxury delivery.

The Role: Chief Operating Officer (founding team member)

We are seeking a talented entrepreneurial COO to build and scale Gently s operational model. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in last mile delivery with a leading high-growth venture as well as deep knowledge of the logistic infrastructure of major retailers.

Tasks

• With a focus on the customer experience, the COO is responsible for developing the operational model to enable retailers to provide state of the art experiential delivery services as an extension of their brand.
• Manage and execute operations roadmap: inclusive of strategy, budget, hiring and expansion
• Manage day to day operations including overseeing orders fulfilment, warehousing, procurement, and compliance
• Benchmark, improve/establish, and track SOPs and SLA targets across q-commerce operations for rapid growth
• Develop, review, analyze, modify, and implement efficient and effective operations department processes, systems, policies, and procedures with a focus on driving, standardizing, and optimizing performance.
• Set up key performance metrics (KPIs) to monitor labour management and order fulfilment
• Review and evaluate performance gaps, and take corrective action, as needed, to ensure the managers/supervisors of each functional area are delivering on operating goals.
• Engage with the marketing & commercial teams to effectively execute the commercial & marketing plans within the country

Requirements

• Previous senior operations experience in last-mile delivery with a leading venture-backed high growth venture or renowned lifestyle retailer.
• An existing network of key stakeholders ranging from retail partners, technology innovators and logistics leaders
• Proven track-record to take an early-stage business to a well-funded category defining player.
• A deep understanding of market trends in retail and logistics as well as a passion to innovate and transform traditional business models by using disruptive tools and technologies
• Highly analytical thinker, capable of creating sustainable and scalable business structure and building teams of top performers in a structured, detail-oriented and reliable management style
