Job Description

What to expect

We need you to build systems for scalable and innovative solutions with Caspar!

Caspar-Health was founded in 2016 to revolutionize the world of therapies. Currently access to medical therapies (i.e., prevention or rehabilitation) is restricted, and patients often do not get the best possible treatment for their recovery. By using Caspar-Health, digital therapy combined with personal therapeutic care, we allow patients to overcome the limited access to temporal and on-site therapy and enable them to exercise anytime and anywhere.

With Caspar, therapists create and share therapy plans with their patients, and both parties interact with each other remotely. Caspar-Health works with the most valued medical facilities in Germany.

We are looking for a highly motivated Lead Engineer / Tech Lead (all genders) to join our team in Berlin. It is an exciting time to work at Caspar because you will be the one designing how the system will work in the future.

You will be responsible for orchestrating the architectural topics for all of our cross-functional teams and supporting us in defining a new strategy for our future application development.

Your Challenges

  • You will mentor and coach the Software Engineering and the DevOps team in terms of collaborative approaches for overarching architectural and process design decisions
  • You will actively participate in the evolution of our software engineering practices from discovery to delivery of a high quality and customer value driven software product
  • You will provide technical solutions to our Product Owners according to the requirements as well as provide them with risk and tech debt
  • You will implement, deliver and maintain solutions
  • You will cultivate a team spirit and feeling of connection within a distributed setup and highly self organized team
  • You will take architectural decisions with the team and improve the product s stability and performance
  • You will set and follow-up on operational and performance requirements and keep up employee engagement, while always having the technical vision and strategy in mind
  • You will work very closely with the CTO to align the strategic organizational development of the software engineering and DevOps departments with the business, product and organizational development strategy
  • You will work closely with our Scrum Masters to align the coaching strategy as well as with the People Department to attract and retain great talent and to shape the culture of our organization (from a functional expertise)

Your profile

  • Extensive experience building and operating high-scale, mission critical production systems. You should have learned enough lessons the hard way that you are able to share them with others.
  • Knowledge of architectural patterns and archetypes for building mature services.
  • Excellent abilities in high level service design - modelling interfaces and internals in a properly modular, composable, and extensible way.
  • Demonstrable experience modernising 'legacy' systems
  • A strong grasp on the broader computing landscape - what the most dependable technologies are to use today, as well as which are emerging and should be paid attention to.
  • Solid CS fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
  • Excellent programming skills in the fullstack JavaScript universe, especially using Typescript
  • Solid experience working with Ruby on Rails in production
  • Experience using PostgreSQL or any other relational database technologies in production grade applications
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with container technologies (Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes)
  • A high bar for the quality of code and performance
  • Ability to work collaboratively and share knowledge with other team members
  • Focus on documentation
  • Willingness to work in a SCRUM environment

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with testing frameworks in different languages is a plus
  • Additional experience with NoSQL databases is a plus
  • Experience with Go and Kotlin/JVM is a plus
  • Experience with GraphQL is a plus
  • Experience with gRPC is a plus
  • Keen interest in other development areas, like mobile and web development
  • Ability to work independently and as member of a team
