Job Description
- Maintaining patient records by updating information such as medications, lab results, and vital signs
- Coordinating with insurance companies and billing departments to collect payments from patients
- Communicating with patients’ families or other members of the hospital staff regarding patient conditions and progress
- Performing clerical tasks such as filing documents, answering phones, and preparing reports
- Recording patients’ medical histories and summarizing procedures performed during hospital stays
- Managing the flow of patients through the hospital by ensuring that they are admitted in a timely manner and discharged when ready
- Coordinating discharge planning with physicians and nurses to ensure that patients have follow-up appointments scheduled and their medications are properly prescribed
- Coordinating with other departments within the hospital to ensure that patients receive the care they need
- Preparing reports on patient medical conditions and progress, which may be sent to physicians for further action or used for insurance purposes
