Data Center Operations Engineer Specialist
Job Summary
Job Description:
The Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth secure and efficient operation of data center facilities and IT infrastructure. This role involves monitoring system performance managing hardware installations handling incidents and maintaining uptime in line with service level agreements (SLAs).
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Centre Operations & Monitoring
- Monitor data centre infrastructure (servers storage network power and cooling systems).
- Ensure high availability and performance of all IT systems.
- Perform routine health checks and preventive maintenance activities.
- Respond to alerts incidents and service requests promptly.
2. Incident & Problem Management
- Troubleshoot hardware network and system issues.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents.
- Escalate issues to appropriate teams/vendors when required.
- Maintain incident logs and operational reports.
3. Hardware & Infrastructure Management
- Install configure and decommission servers racks and networking equipment.
- Manage cabling patching and rack organization.
- Coordinate with vendors for hardware replacements and upgrades.
4. Change & Configuration Management
- Execute changes in accordance with change management processes.
- Maintain accurate documentation of configurations and asset inventory.
- Support system upgrades patching and migrations.
5. Security & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to data centre security policies and access control.
- Support audits (ISO SOC internal compliance).
- Monitor environmental and security systems (CCTV access logs alarms).
6. Facilities Coordination
- Work closely with facility teams on power cooling and physical infrastructure.
- Monitor UPS generators CRAC units and fire suppression systems.
- Participate in DR (Disaster Recovery) and BCP (Business Continuity Plan) testing.
7. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain SOPs runbooks and operational documentation.
- Generate daily/weekly/monthly reports on system performance and incidents.
- Provide updates to stakeholders and management.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in IT Computer Science Engineering or a related field.
- 25 years of experience in data centre operations or IT infrastructure support.
- Knowledge of server hardware networking and operating systems (Linux/Windows).
- Familiarity with DCIM tools monitoring systems and ticketing tools (e.g. ServiceNow).
- Understanding of ITIL processes (Incident Problem Change Management).
Preferred Skills
- Hands-on experience with virtualization (VMware Hyper-V).
- Basic networking knowledge (TCP/IP routing switching).
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure AWS) is a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Ability to work in shifts (24/7 operations environment).
