Job Summary

1) Job Purpose

To drive the technical sales and marketing of Hindalcos value-added aluminium extrusion products focusing on increasing business volume and profitability. The role aims to strengthen customer relationships by providing best-in-class technical support enabling customers product development performance improvement and business growth.

The Indian automotive industry is growing rapidly and is poised to become a global manufacturing leader. This growth is driven by innovation and a strong focus on reducing carbon emissions. Lightweighting has emerged as a key strategy to achieve this objective with aluminium being one of the most preferred and sustainable materials for developing lighter more efficient vehicles.

Hindalco holds a unique position in the market as a fully integrated aluminium producer spanning the entire value chainfrom mining and refining to rolling extrusion and value-added products. This integration enables Hindalco to offer customized alloys that effectively substitute heavier metals and provide the automotive industry with one-stop tailor-made high-performance aluminium solutions.

To cater to the rapidly evolving automotive industry innovative lightweight solutions are essential and the role of technical representatives is critical in driving this transformation through design optimization material innovation and close customer collaboration.

Job Challenges:

The use of aluminium extrusions in the Indian automotive industry remains significantly lower compared to global benchmarks. This gap is driven by multiple challenges including limited design optimization for extrusions inadequate awareness of their potential applications higher material costs and insufficient integration of extrusion tolerances in automotive design. Additionally the development of specialized alloys to substitute heavier metals remains an area requiring focused innovation and collaboration between OEMs and extrusion manufacturers.

  1. Design Integration and Engineering Support:
    Translating automotive design requirements into feasible extrusion profiles while balancing weight reduction strength and manufacturability. Supporting OEMs and Tier-1s in optimizing designs to leverage extrusion capabilities effectively.
  2. Technical Qualification and Validation:
    Managing lengthy approval processes involving prototyping testing and validation to meet stringent OEM standards. Ensuring compliance with safety performance and quality norms for automotive-grade extrusions.
  3. Material and Alloy Development:
    Collaborating on the development of new aluminium alloys to replace heavier metals while maintaining performance and cost efficiency. Addressing specific mechanical thermal and corrosion requirements for different automotive components.
  4. Tolerance and Specification Alignment:
    Ensuring extrusion tolerances are accurately incorporated into automotive component designs. Bridging gaps between design intent and manufacturing capability.
  5. Cost Competitiveness:
    Balancing the cost of aluminium extrusions with performance and lightweighting benefits. Addressing OEM pressure for year-on-year cost reduction while maintaining profitability and quality.
  6. Customer Education and Technical Awareness:
    Enhancing OEM and Tier-1 understanding of aluminium extrusions design flexibility sustainability benefits and integration potential compared to traditional materials like steel.
  7. Rapid Technology and EV Evolution:
    Keeping pace with evolving EV architectures and lightweighting demandsadapting extrusion solutions for battery enclosures crash structures and thermal management systems.
  8. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    Coordinating effectively between design production quality and sales teams to deliver customized technical solutions aligned with customer expectations and timelines.
  9. Sustainability and Regulatory Compliance:
    Supporting customers in achieving sustainability goals through low-carbon recyclable extrusion solutions and adherence to evolving environmental and localization regulations.
  10. Project Management and Lead Conversion:
    Managing long sales cyclesfrom concept to mass productionwhile ensuring timely technical support documentation and responsiveness to customer needs.

Supporting Actions

Market and Application Development

Identify and develop new aluminium extrusion opportunities in automotive and transport applications.

Promote metal substitution by showcasing the benefits of aluminium in lightweighting and sustainability.

Track industry trends competitor activities and emerging technologies to support strategic business growth

Customer Technical Support

Provide end-to-end technical assistance to OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers from concept to production.

Address metallurgical and process-related queries manage technical claims and ensure effective resolution.

Act as the key technical interface between customers and internal production teams.

New Production Development

Lead new business development initiatives from enquiry to Start of Production (SOP) ensuring timely execution and profitability.
Develop and implement business development strategies targeting OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.
Coordinate documentation process validation certifications and audits.
Support sales teams by proactively identifying customer requirements and offering optimized alloy solutions.
Plan and execute Customer Technical Support (CTS) programs jointly with the Head of CTS and Sales Managers.
Provide technical expertise to support sales and customer engagement.

Technical Sales Enablement

Support sales teams with technical expertise to increase business volumes and margins.

Deliver technical presentations and proposals highlighting the value proposition and performance benefits of Hindalcos extrusion solutions.

Process and Capability Improvement

Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to enhance cost efficiency and performance.

Support capability enhancement projects related to extrusion fabrication and finishing processes.

Customer Relationship Management

Build strong trust-based relationships with key customers through proactive engagement and technical collaboration.

Gather customer insights to inform new product development and long-term strategic planning.

Training and Knowledge Sharing

Provide technical training to internal teams and customers on extrusion technology applications and design optimization.

Stay updated with emerging automotive technologies and share relevant updates across teams.

Assessment and Evaluation of Outsourcing Vendor

Technical Assessment of Vendors Compliance Capability and Capacity technical and quality docs sign off from Enquiry to SOP .
