Job Description:

SUNY Delhi seeks a dynamic forward thinking and engaging Supervising Janitor to join the Facilities/CustodialDepartment. SUNY Delhi prides itself on being a welcoming college community for all. As a Supervising Janitor you would supervise a staff of Janitors and Cleaners and may be responsible for all cleaning activities for the entire campus. Incumbent will plan and schedule staff assignments and cleaning services supervise the proper distribution and control of cleaning equipment and supplies inspect buildings and assigned areas and train new staff. May be required to prepare reports such as work activity and supervise the arrangement of set-ups for special occasions. You would also interview and select staff establish training standards and train new staff resolve personnel problems and evaluate work performance.

Requirements:

The successful candidate must be reachable for appointment on a present permanent Civil Service-eligible list for Supervising Janitor; or NY-HELPS

  • Must have two years of satisfactory full-time experience in the custodial care or cleaning of buildings. One year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.
  • Incumbent must be able to effectively supervise staff read and followinstructionsand work as acollegial team member
  • Must have a valid unrestricted NY Statedrivers license

*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program this title maybe filled via a non - competitive appointment which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary May 2024 if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment) it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

The NY HELPS program for the state workforce expires on June 30 2028.
