Job Description Safety Engineer (E&I EPC Project Mundra Site)
Position: Safety Engineer
Location: Mundra Site (Gujarat)
Department: Project Electrical & Instrumentation
Reporting To: Project Manager / HSE Head
1. Role Overview
The Safety Engineer will be responsible for ensuring implementation of all safety standards and statutory compliance at site during execution of Electrical & Instrumentation works. The role focuses on hazard identification risk mitigation and ensuring a safe working environment for all personnel.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Safety Implementation
- Implement project-specific Health Safety & Environment (HSE) plan
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and client requirements
- Monitor safe execution of E&I activities such as:
- Cable laying termination
- Panel installation
- Instrument installation and calibration
B. Hazard Identification & Risk Control
- Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Risk Assessment
- Identify unsafe conditions and take corrective actions
- Ensure implementation of permit-to-work (PTW) system
C. Site Safety Monitoring
- Carry out regular site safety inspections and audits
- Ensure proper use of PPE (helmet gloves harness etc.)
- Monitor work at height confined space and electrical safety
D. Training & Awareness
- Conduct toolbox talks and safety training sessions
- Educate workforce on hazards and safe work practices
- Maintain training records
E. Incident Management
- Report and investigate accidents near-misses unsafe acts
- Prepare incident reports and recommend preventive actions
- Ensure closure of safety observations
F. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain safety records:
- Inspection reports
- PTW records
- Incident reports
- Ensure compliance with statutory regulations and audits
G. Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and implement emergency response plans
- Conduct mock drills (fire electrical hazards etc.)
- Coordinate with site team during emergencies
3. Required Skills
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of E&I site safety practices
- Understanding of:
- Electrical safety (LOTO earthing isolation)
- Work at height safety
- Lifting operations
- Confined space safety
Safety Management
- Experience in HSE implementation at EPC project sites
- Knowledge of risk assessment techniques (JSA HIRA)
- Familiarity with permit-to-work systems
Regulatory Knowledge
- Knowledge of Indian safety regulations and standards
- Familiarity with industrial safety codes and audit systems
Documentation & Software
- Proficiency in MS Excel and reporting tools
- Ability to prepare safety reports and records
Behavioral Skills
- Strong observation and enforcement ability
- Good communication and training skills
- Proactive and safety-focused mindset
- Ability to work under site pressure
4. Qualification & Experience
- Diploma / Degree in Engineering (preferred)
- Diploma/Certification in Industrial Safety (mandatory)
- 58 years experience in EPC / industrial projects
- Experience in Electrical & Instrumentation projects preferred
5. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
- Zero accident / incident rate
- Compliance with safety standards
- Number of safety audits and closures
- Training sessions conducted
- Reduction in unsafe acts/conditions
