Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced UDB DB2 Database Administrator to lead design implementation and operations of Db2 LUW databases across mission-critical environments. The role involves ownership of high availability performance security automation and mentoring junior DBAs while supporting 24x7 production systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead installation configuration and standardization of Db2 LUW (single instance and clustered) across non-prod and prod environments.

  • Own advanced backup and recovery strategy (online/offline incremental log management) and ensure regular DR drills.

  • Design implement and administer high availability and disaster recovery (HADR TSA/cluster integration failover runbooks).

  • Perform advanced performance tuning (SQL memory IO locking log throughput) using db2pd explain event monitors and OS metrics.

  • Plan and execute complex Db2 upgrades and migrations (cross-version cross-platform where applicable) with minimal downtime.

  • Drive capacity planning growth analysis and storage optimization (tablespaces compression reclaimable space reorg strategy).

  • Automate DBA tasks using shell scripting and Db2 administrative APIs; improve monitoring alerting and MTTR.

  • Handle complex incidents and problems perform RCA and implement permanent fixes to prevent recurrences.

  • Review and enforce database security standards (encryption/TDE auditing least privilege separation of duties).

  • Provide technical mentorship to L1/L2 DBAs; review changes and implementation plans.

  • Collaborate closely with application infrastructure and vendor teams to improve performance and stability.

  • Participate in 24x7 support including major incident bridges and planned maintenance / release windows.

Must-Have Skills

  • Strong hands-on administration of Db2 10.5/11.x on Linux/UNIX/Windows (LUW).

  • Proven expertise in HADR design and operations DR strategy and troubleshooting replication/failover issues.

  • Advanced performance tuning skills: SQL tuning indexing strategy parameter tuning concurrency and locking.

  • Deep knowledge of backup/restore rollforward log management and recovery from corruption scenarios.

  • Experience executing Db2 upgrades and migrations with near-zero / low downtime.

  • Strong scripting and automation skills (shell; basics of Python/Perl) and experience with schedulers (cron/enterprise schedulers).

  • Solid understanding of OS storage and network aspects that impact database performance.

  • Experience with partitioned databases (DPF) and/or pureScale including workload management.

  • Strong ITIL-based practices across Incident Problem and Change Management including leading RCA/PIR discussions.

  • Excellent analytical and structured troubleshooting approach.

Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Exposure to Oracle / MS SQL Server / Sybase as secondary database platforms.

  • IBM Certified Advanced Database Administrator / Professional certification.

  • Experience with cloud-hosted Db2 or IaaS migrations including encryption and key management.

  • Experience integrating Db2 monitoring with tools such as Grafana/Prometheus OEM Splunk etc.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD or automation pipelines for database changes (e.g. Liquibase Flyway).

  • ITIL Foundation or Intermediate certification.

  • Experience working with globally distributed teams and handling high-priority escalations.

Education

  • B.E. / / . in Computer Science Information Technology or related field or equivalent diploma with relevant experience.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strong ownership mindset with ability to manage stakeholders and communicate clearly during outages and major incidents.

  • Ability to mentor and upskill junior DBAs and conduct technical reviews.

  • Proactive detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced 24x7 production environment.
