Senior Structural Engineer
Job Summary
- Independently develop and analyze structural models including complex structural systems and loading scenarios.
- Design complete structural systems and major building components in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Lead major structural workstreams ensuring technical quality schedule adherence and efficient execution.
- Perform and coordinate analysis calculations technical assessments and engineering studies.
- Evaluate and optimize solutions considering constructability cost performance sustainability and project objectives.
- Prepare and review calculations reports specifications and technical documentation.
- Guide Graduate Engineers Engineer I and Engineer II team members and review their models calculations drawings and deliverables.
- Coordinate with architectural civil geotechnical mechanical electrical and other disciplines.
- Resolve complex technical challenges involving multiple design constraints.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes standards client requirements and quality procedures.
- Support construction-stage activities including clarifications shop drawing reviews RFI responses and issue resolution.
- Contribute to planning effort estimation resource coordination and delivery forecasting.
- Promote knowledge sharing lessons learned continuous improvement and adoption of emerging technologies.
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Masters Degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
- Typically 8-10 years of experience in building structures within a consulting engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of structural behavior load paths stability strength serviceability constructability and structural performance.
- Experience designing reinforced concrete and structural steel buildings; masonry timber and other systems are desirable.
- Experience independently delivering design packages and leading discipline workstreams.
- Ability to interpret code requirements and resolve compliance issues using sound engineering judgment.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary activities and managing technical interfaces.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers.
- Strong communication technical writing and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to meet commitments related to quality schedule and budget.
- Experience supporting Canadian building projects.
- Exposure to BIM-based delivery and geographically distributed teams.
- Working knowledge of Revit Structure and multidisciplinary coordination.
- Progress toward or attainment of professional registration such as . IStructE ICE or equivalent.
- Experience supporting proposals estimates resource planning or technical bid inputs.
- Experience leading technical improvement and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
