The Purchase Engineer is responsible for sourcing evaluating and procuring engineering materials equipment and services required for projects and production. The role involves coordinating with engineering project quality stores and vendors to ensure timely procurement while maintaining quality standards and achieving cost-effective purchasing.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Activities
Receive and review purchase requisitions (PRs) from engineering project and production departments.
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs) to suppliers.
Obtain and evaluate quotations based on technical and commercial requirements.
Prepare Comparison for vendor selection.
Generate Purchase Orders (POs) after obtaining necessary approvals.
Finalizing of effective payment terms.
Ensure timely procurement of materials to meet project schedules.
Vendor Management
Identify and develop new suppliers.
Maintain an approved vendor database.
Evaluate supplier performance based on quality delivery and cost.
Build long-term relationships with key vendors.
Coordinate vendor registration and qualification.
Technical Evaluation
Study engineering specifications drawings BOQs datasheets and technical documents.
Coordinate with engineering teams for technical clarifications.
Verify compliance of vendor offers with project specifications.
Recommend technically acceptable alternatives when applicable.
Commercial Negotiation
Negotiate prices payment terms delivery schedules warranty and freight terms.
Achieve cost savings through strategic negotiations.
Finalize commercial terms while ensuring company policies are followed.
Order Follow-up
Track purchase orders from placement to delivery.
Follow up with vendors to ensure on-time dispatch.
Coordinate inspections testing and documentation.
Resolve delivery delays and expedite urgent orders.
Maintain procurement records and vendor documentation.
Update ZOHO system with purchase information.
Ensure proper filing of quotations comparative statements and purchase orders.
Prepare procurement reports and MIS.
Inventory Support
Monitor stock availability.
Prevent material shortages.
Support inventory optimization and avoid excess procurement.
Compliance
Ensure procurement follows company policies and procedures.
Maintain compliance with contractual obligations.
Support audits related to procurement activities.
