Principal Software Engineer, Alexa International

As a Principal Software Engineer you are a trusted part of the technical leadership for bringing Alexa to millions of International customers in their languages and countries such that it exceeds local customers expectations. You bring business and industry context to the technology and engineering decisions and drive innovation to make Alexa Architecture (both runtime and offline) truly global.

You solicit differing views across the organization and are willing to change your mind as you learn more. Your artifacts are exemplary and often used as reference across organization.

You are a hands-on engineering leader. Your solutions are exemplary in terms of architectural design clarity scalability efficiency and extensibility. You tackle intrinsically hard problems acquiring expertise as needed. You decompose complex problems into straightforward solutions.

Key job responsibilities
Lead Alexa International Tech orgs technical direction making critical decisions on architecture infrastructure and systems design for optimal performance scalability resilience and access patterns.
Drive innovation in Gen AI based Alexa architectures (both runtime and offline systems)
Design and implement scalable solutions to orgs technical initiatives
Architect and build large-scale distributed systems that integrate complex datasets and support different access patterns.
Mentor and inspire a team of skilled engineers and scientists fostering technical and professional growth
Collaborate across Alexa and Amazon to align technical vision and priorities influencing decisions at senior levels.
Define best practices for system architecture and engineering processes maintaining high standards for software quality and operational excellence
Lead engineering efforts that directly enhance customer experiences and business outcomes through Alexa and GenAI powered services.

Our customers are very diverse in where they live the languages they speak to Alexa the devices they use and the content that matters turn our problems are diverse and need innovative solutions.

Alexa International is at the nexus of all other Alexa teams and features such as Smart Home Music News ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition) NLU (Natural Language Understanding) Fire TV Skills etc. We collaborate with hardware and software developers within and outside Amazon to build delightful experience for our customers.

- 10 years of engineering experience
- 5 years of engineering team management experience
- 10 years of planning designing developing and delivering consumer software experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems
- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs projects and development teams in an Agile environment

- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- Experience designing and developing large scale high-traffic applications
