Purpose of the role
Global Finance is integral to HSBCs purpose and strategy playing a valued role in managing finances and costs and deploying capital in the most effective way. Finance operations (Fin Ops) is core to Global Finance and provides a variety of financial support services to In-Country teams across the HSBC Group entities and role is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial accounting and reporting in compliance with regulatory standards. The role holder will be accountable for balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation audit readiness and strengthening the control environment. It also involves partnering with upstream and downstream teams driving end-to-end process reviews and leading transformation automation and other improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and scalability.
In this role you will:
- Period-End Close: the role involves overseeing the monthly and quarterly close cycles ensuring that all journal entries reconciliations and adjustments are accurate and completed on time. It requires close coordination with global teams to ensure submissions are complete well-substantiated and explained.
- Insurance: the role holder supports the preparation and analysis of financial statements for insurance entities in compliance with IFRS 17 and related standards covering submissions to the respective country regulators
- Asset Management the role focuses on accounting for investments including fair value assessments income recognition and consolidation activities. It involves preparing reports in line with IFRS 10 ensuring appropriate treatment of investment holdings and intercompany transactions.
- Inter-company & Servco: the role is responsible for managing the financials of service companies that support global operations. This includes handling cost allocations intercompany recharges and ensuring adherence to internal governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Automation and Data Analytics: this role will be an analyst/developer who is hands on with delivery of automation initiatives and has expert/advanced level of knowledge on Xceptor Microsoft Power Automate Python GitHub and SQL. The role will also include technical evaluation of current problem statements data collation management reporting solution development change and other implementation activities. This role would be expected to be at the centre of how Finance Operations shapes delivers and embeds automation changes working with the business and our other delivery partners.
- Responsible for ensuring the preparation/review of monthly quarterly and annual B/S P/L schedules and consolidated final accounts as per IFRS responsible for ensuring the preparation and review of various pre and post close journals.
- Collaborate extensively with the external auditors during preliminary and year-end audit procedures. Devise delivery strategy in order to meet KPI timelines including the stringent timelines and high-pressure situations and at the same time maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for process re-engineering / improvement and participate in change initiatives. Devise strategy to adapt pro-active approach in highlighting issues for timely resolution
To be successful you will:
- B. Com / M Com/ CA (inter)/ CWA (inter) Engineering Chartered Accountant/Postgraduate or MBA with post qualification experience of 2 years in Finance and Accounting. Prior experience in financial accounting and Reporting month end closure and strong knowledge IFRS is required.
- Good communication skills for ensuring smooth day-to-day interaction with In-Country teams. Very strong Excel skills to interpret high data volume and facilitate automation.
- Good knowledge of HUB/REMIND/COGNOS/TREATS/ SARACEN and other HSBC systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently coordinate the efforts of others and work well with people at a wide range of levels.
- Understanding of Global markets products securities etc. Strong technical knowledge of accounting and reporting principles.
- Good knowledge of Analytical tools Python MS Access Database Xceptor Power BI will have an added advantage.
- Functional experience in accounting for all balance sheet / income statement heads.
- Analytical skills to perform variance analysis and detailed review.
