Lead Engineer (Piping Stress)
Job Summary
Our Nuclear and Power division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages from concept through to completion to owners operators regulators and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector were involved across the whole life cycle of the nuclear industry building the next generation of nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects. You will be working across our business for different global regions in supporting various nuclear plant systems. You will be required to support nuclear power plant design and refurbishment activities such as piping design and analysis of nuclear process systems equipment selection and production of procurement specifications seismic assessments of piping and supports equipment and piping layout etc. As we support our clients you may be expected to travel and work from client sites across the geographies we work in as the role project or secondment requires.

- The work is varied and may include some or all the responsibilities mentioned below:
- Perform static and dynamic analysis (Time history and Response Spectrum analysis) of complex systems.
- Perform calculations such as PSV Reaction Forces Steam Hammer Hydraulic Forces and 2 phase slug forces.
- Perform wear pad requirements trunnion calculations ad saddle support design.
- Prepare Piping Stress Design Guideline Based on Project Requirements.
- Review & Checking Stress Reports Equipment GAs FRS & Seismic Anchor Movements (SAM) Stress Model Breakups & Critical Line List.
- Preparation of support loads for structural team assessment and perform primary support validations.
- Knowledge on Secondary support validation would be an added advantage
- Calculate and Select Spring hanger supports struts snubbers. And Prepare data sheets for the special piping supports.
- Provide engineering advice and technical solutions in relation to plant integrity issues on operational assets.
- Perform flange leakage checks using different methods.
- Liaising with all stakeholders and responsible for all technical issues related to their area of specialisation; Co-ordination with other discipline specialists where areas interface or overlap exist.
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision and work effectively as a team member on all assignments.
- Flexible to take up tasks as per project and organisation requirements.
- Production of equipment specification and equipment selection.
- Knowledge of piping layout and preparation of mechanical piping engineering designs for new installations and for replacement and upgrade of systems and components.
- Design and implementation of engineering changes/system upgrades in brown field projects.
- Production of deliverables such as design definition and substantiation documents detailed equipment specifications component/material specifications.
- Piping and pressure vessel design (including valve/ fitting /material selection)
- Development of project technical proposals scopes schedules and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work.
- Walk-downs to assess system configuration evaluation of system/component degradation and material condition.
- Review of 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models and bill of materials.
- Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages Plant refurbishment operational improvement and life extension studies.
- Candidate should possess the following qualifications skills and experience:
- Graduate or post-graduate in mechanical or other relevant engineering.
- Candidate should have 15 to 20 years of experience in Nuclear Power Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
- Possess strong piping stress analysis concepts and ability to perform piping stress and supports analysis of critical piping systems.
- Proven computer aptitude and expertise in MS office. Experience in developing digital tools is highly desirable.
- Experience in piping layout and piping design.
- Experience in design selection and specification of piping supports and piping components etc.
- Experience in handling brownfield packages in particular power plant systems and utilities.
- Demonstrable knowledge of design projects or relevant knowledge of process plant operations is desirable.
- Ability to carry out detailed design analysis and review others work.
- Life extension studies and ageing management of systems and components.
- Experience in mechanical design and assessment in either greenfield or brownfield projects.
- Ability to understand and define clients requirements plan and schedule deliverables timelines.
- Knowledge of fabrication/construction drawings and processes.
- Familiar with international design codes and standards (such as: ASME BPVC Section III ND NC ND and NF ASME B31.1 ASME 31.3 EN 13480 and RCC-M) and various other ASME/ASTM and API standards for piping components.
- Knowledge of recommended practices pertaining to piping and mechanical design fabrication installation inspection testing quality assurance and quality control etc.
- Strong delivery culture maintaining strict timelines is must.
- Experience of providing strong technical advice and guidance on mechanical engineering design to the client.
- Experience in supporting construction and commissioning phases.
- Ability to work independently or as part of team flexible attitude to the type of work and the level of responsibility accepted.
- Ability to guide and develop team of junior individuals and trainees
- Well-versed knowledge of Engineering Quality and Manufacturing related to Nuclear Oil and Gas any Mechanical equipment-based industries.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical equipment problems and develop formal work package instructions for performance and documentation of repairs.
- Have excellent communication skills and motivated by working within a dynamic and diverse project delivery environment.
- Be willing to travel internationally and willing to work flexibly with occasional out of hours work to accommodate project and client requirements.
