Role Overview
BMW TechWorks India is looking for an experienced PCB Layout Design Engineer to develop high-quality PCB layouts for automotive Electronic Control Units (ECUs) Zonal Controllers Connectivity Modules Electrification Systems etc.
The role requires strong expertise in multilayer PCB layout design high-speed routing EMC-conscious design practices and close collaboration with hardware development teams. The engineer will also contribute to establishing PCB layout standards and mentoring layout engineers as part of BMWs growing hardware organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop PCB layouts for automotive embedded hardware projects from concept to release.
- Perform component placement routing and optimization for multilayer PCB designs.
- Implement layout requirements for: High-speed digital circuits Mixed-signal designs Power electronics Automotive communication interfaces (CAN LIN Ethernet)
- Ensure compliance with Signal Integrity (SI) Power Integrity (PI) EMC/EMI thermal and manufacturability requirements.
- Collaborate closely with hardware design engineers during schematic reviews and PCB development.
- Support PCB stack-up definition impedance-controlled routing differential pair routing grounding and power distribution strategies.
- Participate in PCB layout reviews and design sign-off activities.
- Support hardware validation EMC testing and issue resolution.
- Develop and maintain PCB layout guidelines design rules libraries and review checklists.
- Mentor junior PCB layout engineers and support competency development within the team.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics Electrical Engineering or related disciplines.
- 510 years of experience in PCB layout design for automotive or embedded electronics products.
- Strong hands-on experience with PCB design tools such as:
- Preferred: Altium Designer Cadence Allegro
- Siemens Xpedition Mentor PADS
- Experience designing complex multilayer PCBs (6 layers)
- Strong understanding of: High-speed PCB design Differential pair routing Controlled impedance routing SI/PI fundamentals EMC-aware PCB design DFM DFA and DFT concepts
- Experience supporting layouts involving: CAN/CAN FD LIN Automotive Ethernet SPI I2C UART
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with automotive ECU development.
- Exposure to ADAS Body Controllers Connectivity or Electrification products.
- Knowledge of SI/PI analysis tools such as HyperLynx Sigrity or SIwave.
- Familiarity with ISO 26262 and ASPICE development processes.
