Job Summary
Role Overview
The Senior Embedded Hardware Engineer will serve as a technical leader responsible for building and scaling automotive hardware engineering capabilities within BMW TechWorks India. Beyond delivering advanced ECU hardware architectures this role will establish engineering standards create reusable design frameworks mentor engineering teams and drive technical excellence across multiple vehicle programs.
Key Responsibilities
Hardware Architecture Leadership
- Define hardware architectures for automotive ECUs (Central Computing Platform Zonal Controllers etc.).
- Lead development activities across: Body Electronics ADAS Connected Vehicle Electrification Systems Central Compute Platforms
- Make critical technical decisions involving: High-speed digital design Automotive Ethernet Power architectures Safety mechanisms Thermal management EMC concepts
Hardware Center of Excellence Development
- Establish and continuously improve BMW TechWorks India hardware development processes.
- Create and institutionalize: Hardware design standards Electrical design guidelines PCB layout standards Component derating rules Design review frameworks Validation strategies Hardware quality metrics
- Build reusable design methodologies and reference architectures.
Team Building & Capability Development
- Hire mentor and develop hardware engineering teams.
- Define technical competency matrices.
- Establish structured training programs for: Hardware design PCB layout EMC design Functional Safety Automotive communication protocols
- Coach engineers from junior to lead levels.
- Build succession and technical leadership pipelines.
Technical Governance
- Chair schematic and PCB design reviews.
- Approve hardware architecture decisions.
- Drive root cause analysis of complex field and validation issues.
- Lead hardware quality improvement initiatives.
- Establish Lessons Learned and Continuous Improvement processes.
Global Engineering Collaboration
- Act as technical interface with BMW global hardware organizations.
- Support supplier technical evaluations and audits (e.g. Semiconductor PCB EMS suppliers).
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronics Electrical Embedded Systems or related disciplines.
- 1015 years of experience in automotive embedded hardware design.
- Proven leadership of hardware engineering teams.
- Extensive experience in: ECU development Hardware architecture PCB design and review Automotive communication technologies (preferred Ethernet and CAN) EMC/EMI mitigation Reliability engineering
- Deep expertise in: Altium Designer (Preferred) Cadence Allegro OrCAD Signal Integrity and Power Integrity tools
- Strong hands on with test equipments: Oscilloscopes Logic analyzers Function generators Spectrum analyzers
- Knowledge of Agile Scrum/Kanban
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building hardware organizations or Centers of Excellence.
- Expertise in: Automotive Ethernet ADAS Hardware EV/BMS Hardware Domain Controllers Zonal Architectures
- Working knowledge of: ISO 26262 ASPICE ISO 21434 (good to have) DFMEA FMEDA FTA
