Job Summary
OP is partnering with a globally renowned leader in media entertainment and consumer experiences to hire an experienced database engineer to join our DBRE team where we blend traditional database operations with modern data platform engineering. Youll be working primarily with Snowflake building and maintaining enterprise-scale data infrastructure that supports petabyte-scale workloads. This isnt just keeping systems running - youll be designing architectures automating everything we can and partnering with data engineers to build pipelines that actually work in production.
Youll also support our MongoDB infrastructure handling everything from replica set management to performance tuning. Were a team that values automation over manual work reliability over firefighting and practical solutions over theoretical perfection.
What Youll Actually Be Doing:
- Snowflake Platform Engineering
- Design Snowflake architectures that scale - were talking petabyte-level data workloads.
- Build Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) to automate provisioning and configuration.
- Develop data pipelines using Snowflakes native features: Streams Tasks Snowpipe.
- Optimize queries right-size warehouses and keep costs under control (execs notice this).
- Set up disaster recovery and high-availability patterns.
- Work with security and compliance teams on data sharing access controls and governance.
- MongoDB Operations
- Maintain replica sets and sharded clusters supporting production apps.
- Build monitoring and alerting so we catch problems before they page us at 3am.
- Review schema designs and help optimize queries.
- Own backup/recovery procedures and actually test them.
- Data Engineering Collaboration
- Partner with data engineers on ETL/ELT pipeline design and optimization.
- Build tooling for data quality checks and lineage tracking.
- Create self-service capabilities so teams can provision resources themselves.
- Support data modeling efforts across both Snowflake and MongoDB.
- Reliability Engineering
- Join the on-call rotation (we support 24/7 production systems).
- Lead incident response write postmortems that actually help us improve.
- Build dashboards and alerts using DataDog Grafana CloudWatch or similar.
- Automate the boring stuff with Python and SQL.
Technical Experience:
- Snowflake (Primary): 2 years of hands-on experience. You should be comfortable with virtual warehouses clustering materialized views data sharing and SnowSQL. Bonus if youve done real cost optimization work and built pipelines with Snowpipe/Streams/Tasks.
- MongoDB (Secondary): 1 years in production. Understanding of replica sets sharding and indexing. You dont need to be an expert but you should be able to troubleshoot performance issues.
- SQL: Advanced skills - complex joins window functions CTEs query optimization. This is table stakes for the role.
- Programming: Strong Python skills for automation and data processing. If you can write a script to automate something tedious youll fit right in.
- Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform or similar tools. We dont click buttons in consoles.
- Cloud Platforms: Hands-on with AWS Azure or GCP. You should understand how Snowflake sits in the cloud ecosystem.
- Monitoring: Experience with DataDog Grafana CloudWatch or similar. You know how to instrument systems properly.
Nice to Have:
- Snowflake SnowPro Core or Advanced certification.
- Experience with DBT or similar transformation frameworks.
- Knowledge of data warehouse design patterns (Kimball Data Vault).
- CI/CD pipeline experience (GitLab CI Jenkins GitHub Actions).
- Container orchestration (ECS Kubernetes).
- Data governance and compliance background (GDPR SOC2).
Background:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience - we care more about what you can do).
- 3-5 years working with production database systems at scale.
- Experience in database engineering data engineering or site reliability roles.
