Morgan Stanleys Institutional Equity Division (IED) is a world leader in the origination distribution and trading of equity equity-linked and equity-derivative securities. Primary Responsibilities

Morgan Stanleys Equities Derivatives division is looking for a Core Strategist for its Equity Derivative Strat Team. Strategists are key participants together with traders and salespeople in the revenue-generating activities of our Sales & Trading Division. Core Strategists provide the C quant library platform on which new product-specific valuation models are written. They ensure speed quality consistency and timely delivery of valuation models across all equity derivative products.

We are looking for a strategist to expand our platform that automatically catches bugs in our C valuation models before they reach production. These valuation models are contained in a large library with dozens of active contributors which we aim to release weekly. To achieve this rapid delivery we want to expand our use of automated tools to detect common errors early. This platform will use a variety of techniques including:

Key Responsibilities

Platform Engineering Quality & Modernization

  • Lead engineering initiatives to improve library performance reliability and scalability
  • Build and enhance automated testing frameworks including regression testing static analysis fuzzing and property-based testing with randomized inputs
  • Improve platform quality through:
    • Code coverage enforcement and SonarQube quality gates
    • Regression test analysis to proactively detect issues
    • Modernized test infrastructure for faster and more reliable feedback
  • Contribute to platform modernization initiatives including RHEL9 rollout Bazel adoption and C20 migration with Docker adoption

Build & Release Automation

  • Enhance release reliability and velocity by driving:
    • Automated release pipelines to reduce manual effort and errors
    • Signoff automation to streamline approvals and ensure audit readiness
    • Auto-bisection tooling for faster root-cause analysis and debugging

Test Infrastructure

  • Develop production-like test harnesses in Python Java or C
  • Support and optimize large-scale nightly regression runs

Data & Insights

  • Track and analyze defect detection metrics (e.g. early vs. late bug identification)
  • Use insights to guide testing strategy tooling improvements and coverage expansion

Code Quality

  • Collaborate with developers to eliminate recurring bug patterns
  • Refactor C code to improve reliability maintainability and testability

Required Skills & Experience (Essential)

Technical

  • At least 2 years of strong software development experience in C
  • Experience with Python or Java
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Solid understanding of testing methodologies (unit regression automation)

Education

  • Bachelors degree in a technical field involving applied mathematics
    (e.g. Computer Science Engineering Mathematics)

Core Competencies

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams bridging technical and design perspectives
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High motivation and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team-oriented environment

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Knowledge of mathematical optimization algorithms
  • Exposure to cloud technologies
  • Hands-on experience with C build release and testing frameworks
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build systems (e.g. Bazel)
  • Experience with large-scale C codebases or numerical/quant systems
