Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Systems Analyst with strong expertise in Canadian payment systems and end-to-end payment processing. The role will support Payments Canada initiatives including Real-Time Rail (RTR) electronic funds transfer modernization Lynx and regulatory or scheme-driven change. The successful candidate will translate business and regulatory needs into clear delivery-ready requirements while working across product technology operations data risk compliance and other stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead requirements elicitation analysis validation documentation and traceability for Canadian payment-system initiatives.
• Create and refine business requirements functional requirements epics user stories acceptance criteria use cases process flows business rules interface requirements and data mappings.
• Analyze end-to-end payment lifecycles covering initiation validation routing clearing settlement posting reconciliation returns exceptions investigations and reporting.
• Map current-state and future-state processes identifying system interactions operational hand-offs controls dependencies pain points and improvement opportunities.
• Apply domain knowledge across RTR EFT Interac and Lynx to assess business operational data integration and control impacts.
• Partner with Product Technology Architecture Operations Data Risk Compliance Legal Testing and vendor teams to clarify scope and support solution decisions.
• Perform data analysis to validate requirements identify trends or exceptions reconcile outputs and support impact assessments and business decisions.
• Support Agile product delivery through backlog refinement sprint planning requirement clarification demonstrations testing UAT defect triage release readiness and post-implementation validation.
• Assess Payments Canada standards scheme rules and regulatory changes and translate applicable obligations into business and system requirements.
• Support compliance modernization and migration initiatives by maintaining clear documentation decision logs requirement traceability and stakeholder alignment.
Must-Have Skills
• 8 years of relevant experience as a Business Analyst or Business Systems Analyst in payments transaction banking or financial services.
• Strong expertise in the Canadian payments ecosystem including RTR EFT Interac and Lynx.
• Practical understanding of the end-to-end payment lifecycle clearing and settlement payment messaging exception handling reconciliation and operational controls.
• Strong requirements elicitation and documentation skills including epics user stories acceptance criteria business and functional requirements and traceability.
• Advanced business process mapping and current-state/future-state analysis skills.
• Strong data-analysis capability including the ability to interpret payment data investigate exceptions validate impacts and support evidence-based decisions.
• Proven stakeholder-management skills across business product technology operations risk compliance and control functions.
• Hands-on experience supporting Agile product delivery and working directly with cross-functional delivery teams.
• Strong facilitation analytical thinking problem-solving communication and documentation skills.
Nice-to-Have Skills
• Knowledge of Payments Canada standards bylaws rules procedures and message specifications.
• Knowledge of commercial banking and transaction banking products including domestic payments collections account services liquidity and client payment channels.
• Understanding of Canadian payment regulations scheme obligations operational risk compliance and control requirements.
• Exposure to ISO 20022 messaging and payment-system modernization.
• Experience with Jira Confluence Microsoft Visio SQL data-query tools or payment-platform implementations.
