Airfield Design Engineer
Job Summary
The Aviation team in AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Airfield Design Engineer at GTC Mumbai Office. The primary function of this role will be to support the Senior Airfield Design Engineer in Aviation projects. The Airfield Design Engineer will be responsible in supporting delivering airfield civil engineering design and maintenance projects through various stages of design from feasibility/ option studies to detailed design and onto construction for various clients both in the UK ME and overseas.
- Perform airfield pavement design and evaluation for flexible and rigid pavements. Conduct aircraft movement and apron stand planning analyses.
- Undertake obstacle limitation surface (OLS) and safeguarding assessments.
- Carry out grading drainage and earthwork design for airside facilities. Evaluate aircraft compatibility and airside operational requirements.
- Develop conceptual preliminary and detailed designs for Runways Taxiways Aprons and aircraft stands Rapid exit taxiways Airside service roads and De-icing and maintenance areas.
- Prepare airfield geometry layouts in accordance with ICAO FAA EASA and other applicable standards. Conduct airfield capacity and operational assessments. Support airport master planning studies and expansion projects.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. Interface with airport operators airlines aviation authorities and stakeholders. Support design reviews value engineering and constructability assessments.
- Prepare Design reports Calculations Technical specifications Tender documentation Bill of Quantities (BOQ) Construction drawings. Ensure compliance with project quality management systems. Ensure designs comply with ICAO Annex 14 ICAO Aerodrome Design Manual (ADM) FAA Advisory Circulars EASA Certification Specifications DGCA and local aviation authority regulations.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or Airport Engineering. Masters degree in Transportation Aviation or Airport Planning.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in airport planning airfield design or aviation infrastructure projects. Experience in international airport projects is highly desirable.
- Strong hands-on experience with Autodesk Civil 3D & AutoCAD.
- Good understanding of Airfield geometric design Airport master planning Pavement design (FAA/ICAO methodologies) Airside operational planning Aircraft stand planning Obstacle limitation surface analysis Grading and drainage design Construction support and design management.
- BIM workflows and data management
- Experience working on UK / Middle East / International Airport projects is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative BIM team.
- Experience with AviPLAN/AutoTURN.
- Experience with Bentley OpenAirport.
- Knowledge of ACC / ProjectWise Navisworks and clash detection workflows.
- Exposure to scripting or automation (Dynamo Lisp etc.) is a plus.
