Youth Employment Support Services Program

Program Starts End of September 2026.

The Employment Program is a 19 week 32-35 hour per week paid program.

  • Through employment education and on-the-job training this Ray of Hope program helps youth enter the workplace with the skills they need to succeed
  • Participants will be paid $17.60 per hour while they complete a 4 week in-class workshop in downtown Kitchener followed by a minimum of 15 weeks of supported paid employment experience with an external employer that matches their skills and interests

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • Between the ages of 15-30 years old
  • Able to commit to a 19 week (5 month) full-time training program
  • Unemployed or working less than 15 hours/week
  • Must NOT be enrolled in secondary or post-secondary education
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident

This 19 week (5 month) paid program is divided into three phases:

Phase 1: In-Class Training (4 weeks)

  • Receive job and life skills training that will help to prepare you to enter the workforce
  • Uncover your personal and professional skills and strengths
  • Learn to write resumes cover letters and master your interview skills
  • Earn certifications in Safe Food Handling Smart Serve First Aid/CPR and Health and Safety/WHMIS

Phase 2: Internal Work Placement (5 weeks)

  • Complete an internal work placement within Ray of Hope in the Community Center
  • Some participants will move directly from Phase 1 (In Class Training) to a 15 -week Phase 3 (External Work Placement)

Phase 3: External Work Placement (10 weeks)

  • Complete an entry level job placement with an employer which will provide you with practical work experience
  • This placement must be in line with your current work skills qualifications and abilities
  • Support is provided to identify apply and interview for this position

Hours/ Compensation:

  • $17.60 per hour
  • 32-35 hours a week
  • 5-month contract (19 weeks)
  • Financial support for transportation and work clothing
  • Food provided during phase 1 and 2 (Lunch through our Community Centre)
