This position reports to the Campus Recreation Programmer in the Department of Athletics and Recreation Centre for Sport and Wellness. While the Student Weight Room Ambassador must have a strong background in and passion for physical activity they do not need to be a certified personal trainer.Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Weight Room orientations
- Facilitate monthly physical activity sessions and healthy lifestyle games/workshops for all participants alongside other CapUrec staff
- Attend trainings meetings and professional development sessions
- Provide input for improvement and changes to enhance CapUrec
SKILLS REQUIRED
- Must be a Capilano University student. 1st year Kinesiology or equivalent is a definite asset
- Emergency First Aid AED and CPR certifications required
- Certified personal trainer a definite asset but not required- there will be no specific exercise prescription (CFC CSEP and ACE BCRPA)
- Strong inter-personal and relationship-building skills are required
- Must have experience with goal setting and behaviour change
- Must have a basic understanding of exercise prescription and physical activity (eg. FITT principle)
- Must have strong organizational skills responsibility professionalism and ability to organize their own schedule. They must have consistent availability throughout the school year.
Additional Details:
To be eligible for student employment a student must be in good academic standing with the University. Good standing is defined as having a GPA of 2.0 and no current notations regarding academic standing student conduct or outstanding fees per policy S2003-003 Academic Standing a copy of which can be found on the Universitys website.
Domestic students must be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of two or more (6 credits) courses at Capilano University throughout the work term; international students must: during the fall and winter semesters be enrolled in and maintain a minimum of 9 credits at Capilano University throughout the work term; have a valid Study Permit.
Student employees are not required to be enrolled in courses during the summer term to maintain eligibility for employment; however they must have been enrolled in a minimum of six credits during the preceding spring term. Furthermore international students must abide by the terms of their work or study visas.
Students who complete their studies in the spring or summer terms may have their appointments extended until August 31 of the same year; students who complete their studies in the fall term may have their appointments extended until December 31 of the same year.
