The Team
The Veterinary Pathologists team at British Columbias Animal Health Centre (AHC) is an established group of six board-certified specialists dedicated to protecting animal health public health food safety and the provinces agricultural economy. Working in an internationally accredited laboratory the team provides expert diagnostic pathology services for a wide range of animal species and collaborates closely with laboratory scientists Office of the Chief Veterinarian private veterinarians government partners researchers First Nations communities and animal health organizations. Together they support disease surveillance outbreak detection research education and continuous improvement initiatives that help keep British Columbia prepared for emerging animal health risks. The Role
As a Veterinary Pathologist with the Animal Health Centre you will provide expert diagnostic pathology services that support disease detection surveillance and animal health protection across British Columbia. Working closely with laboratory scientists Office of the Chief Veterinarian private veterinarians researchers government partners and First Nations communities you will contribute to research innovation and continuous improvement in an internationally accredited laboratory. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or an equivalent degree from a university of recognized standing. AND
    • Completion of a Pathology residency program or equivalent experience; OR
    • Masters Degree in Science or Veterinary Medicine (focused on Pathology); OR
    • Doctor of Philosophy Degree (PhD) in Science or Veterinary Medicine (focused on Pathology).
  • Eligibility for board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP).
  • Two (2) years or more of demonstrated experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology and diagnostic interpretation.
  • Must be eligible to be licensed to practice by the College of Veterinarians in British Columbia or an equivalent Veterinary Licensing body in North America.

Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:

  • A Doctor of Philosophy degree (PhD) (focused on Pathology);
  • Certification from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or the European College of Veterinary Pathologists;
  • Experience in clinical practice; and/or
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in veterinary diagnostic pathology.

About this Position:
This is a temporary opportunity until October 1 2027. This position may be extended or become permanent.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 1 day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
Eligible forVeterinarian Qualification Differential (VQD) $10000 for postgraduate (DVM) education or training to the PhD or board certification level.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
