Job Summary

Are you skilled in organization and evaluation The Mustard Seed is seeking a Thrift Store Relief worker to provide outstanding customer service and handle sales transactions.

Reporting to the Thrift Store Manager The Thrift Store Relief Worker is responsible for assisting with the overall operations of the Thrift Store. You will provide direction and support to the volunteers assist with cashier duties establish relationships with donors and provide front-line customer service. The Thrift Store may also act as an Employment Program for community members. Therefore the Thrift Store Relief will work directly with individuals who are in the midst of their recovery journey and gaining workplace experience.

Schedule: Flexible schedule with no guaranteed hours (may include day evening and weekends)

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sell product and support sales transactions;
  • Establish new partnerships and promote The Mustard Seed as a top destination for donations;
  • Manage customer complaints and concerns in a professional manner;
    Perform opening and closing procedures including cash out;
  • Greet customers and provide assistance as needed;
  • Restock inventory and create product displays;
  • Clean and organize the store to ensure a welcoming environment to customers;
  • Engage in loss prevention procedures;
  • Engage volunteers to grow and develop the Thrift Store;
  • Sorting donations;
  • Directing and organizing volunteers to complete tasks as needed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • 2 years of experience in a retail sales or customer service role is considered an asset;
  • Experience driving cube vans or trucks is considered an asset;
  • Class 5 Drivers License and clean Drivers Abstract is considered an asset but not required;
  • Sales or marketing experience;
  • Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills;
  • Skilled at conflict resolution;
  • Empathetic towards and ability to communicate with individuals facing mental health addictions chronic illness homelessness poverty and related challenges.


    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    • An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed.
    • As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry we require our employees sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith.
    • Moderate mental effort: periods of high-volume workload with significant people interaction.
    • Must be able to stand walk climb and reach for extended periods of time.
    • Must be able to lift 50lbs routinely to load and sort merchandise as required.
