Role Description
The Technical Project Manager (TPM) is responsible for defining planning and executing cloud migration programs while ensuring alignment with business and technology objectives. The TPM leads governance stakeholder coordination and delivery oversight across complex migration initiatives.
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Program Strategy and Planning
Define cloud migration roadmap phases and delivery approach Translate business objectives into a structured migration program plan Coordinate with enterprise architects and cloud teams to determine:
Migration waves
Application grouping
Hosting strategy
Rehosting Refactoring Replatforming Retiring decisions Establish program scope timelines milestones and dependencies Build and maintain an integrated program plan covering applications infrastructure security testing cutover and support Identify critical path items and mitigation plans
2. Stakeholder Management
Act as the single point of coordination across business technology security infrastructure and operations teams Facilitate governance forums steering committees and status meetings Communicate migration objectives risks impacts timelines and decisions Align cross-functional teams on priorities scope changes and cutover readiness Manage expectations of executives program sponsors and application owners
3. Migration Governance and Delivery Oversight Set up governance structures for:
Weekly status reviews
RAID reviews
Architecture checkpoints
Change approvals
Go-live readiness reviews
Track program execution against milestones and delivery commitments Monitor progress across all migration workstreams Proactively manage issues blockers and interdependencies Escalate critical risks or delays with recommended actions Ensure adherence to project management standards and SDLC / DevOps practices
4. Technical Coordination
Work closely with:
Cloud architects
Infrastructure teams
Security teams
Application development teams
Network teams
Database administrators
DevOps / platform teams
Ensure migration designs are reviewed and agreed upon Coordinate technical decisions related to:
Landing zone readiness
Network connectivity
Identity and access
Backup and disaster recovery
Monitoring and observability
Data migration approaches
Validate technical prerequisites before migration execution Support resolution of design and implementation conflicts
5. Application and Workload Migration Management Manage migration of applications and workloads through defined waves Maintain inventory of applications and workloads
Essential Skills
Strong experience in cloud migration strategy and execution Proficiency in stakeholder management and risk management Experience with technical coordination across multiple teams Experience in financial management related to project budgets Excellent executive-level communication and reporting skills Experience with cloud platforms (AWS Azure) Knowledge of compliance and security requirements in cloud environments Familiarity with DevOps practices Understanding of application assessment and readiness analysis Skills in change management and business readiness
